Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 12, 2010 10:01 am We have just gotten the titles released for our block after waiting 8mths. Because of the waiting our builder has said that the price of our home will increase, which we understand. But they said they wont be able to tell us how much the increase will be until we get building approval from the council (which I have been told is 6weeks). I am so annoyed at this. We have a budget and the increase may just be too much that we could not afford it. We just have no idea what it would be. And I don't want to have to wait until building approval when we could be looking for another builder if our house is going to be over budget. Does this make sense to anyone? Building in Perth. Pre-start complete 25th March 2010 Titles due April 2010 Re: Builder wont give us final cost until building approval 2Nov 12, 2010 10:52 am i think this is wrong. you havent even signed the plans right? you may proceed to make structural changes or other changes at prestart that may mean you will have to resubmit to council. i would ask for the next person up. you are entitled to know the cost of your house, because you are paying for it. they may not want to tell you the price because they are going to have another rise soon too! where are you building? welcome to H1 When times get tough build a house...Our second build Re: Builder wont give us final cost until building approval 3Nov 12, 2010 11:14 am Thanks Sharky. We have signed the plans, done prestart everything. We are ready to go with this builder. But our fixed price agreement only was valid for 3mths and because our titles were 8mths late the price is able to change. Which we totally understand. But we just want to know how much the house will be costing us now. Which they wont tell us. They have said it will increase but that is all. Building in Perth. Celebration homes Oasis. Have emailed our builder. Lets see how we go. Building in Perth. Celebration homes Oasis. Maybe request the price remain as you signed as title delay was beyond your control. You never know your luck! We have also told them that if the increase is too much then we may not be able to proceed with the loan. To be honest I shouldn't be saying 'the builder' because it is just all the salesman. He is who we have to go through. I have had a reply from him that they need to know when they can build the house from the council before they can give us a price. But I think that is a load of bull because how can we sign a contract in March locking in the price before it had been to council. Anyways he is going to speak with his Managers and we will go from there. Other people in our Estate that are building with different builders don't have to pay a cent extra then the original contract. So I think they are just playing games now. And after waiting 8mths for our titles, I am sick of playing games. Building in Perth. Celebration homes Oasis. You've already mentioned it. Sue them. I find it odd that lawyers wouldnt be willing to take on the case, given CCT evidence and… 1 23787 custom probably not. Volume, most defiantly, but spec would vary. If youre doing a knock down, there additional costs associated with that that will eat into your budget… 1 10283 1 2992 |
