These inspectors work for the builders and not for you. Also allow 2-3 months after the proposed handover date so that u are in no rush move out of your current home. At least then you can hold on the final payment. One thing i found pd is good at is the invoice dept (they send you invoice before the completion of each stage and they follow up with phone calls !!)
kwhy Re: One Porter Davis Frustration After Another.... 33Nov 28, 2007 2:31 pm **Phoenix** Funny how they just won the HIA Customer Service Award for 2007. It wouldn't hurt them to be more Customer & Quality Focused now would it!!!!? Kind of reminds me of my problem with my mortgage lender - A.N.Z. Almost 10 months down the track and my problem regarding my mortgage is still not fixed. 'Home Loan Lender of the Year' they say? [sneakersss] Re: One Porter Davis Frustration After Another.... 34Nov 28, 2007 4:28 pm We moved into our PD home back in April (over 7 months ago now).
Now...before I start...we still love our home & are very happy with it. And I probably wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. But a few things have really soured the experience for us...well, ok one main thing - the fact that we *still* have things outstanding from handover. Seven months ago. Maintenance have been really good at getting their outstanding items done. The site supervisor, however, hasn't. It ended up with us getting managers & the like involved, hands being slapped, etc. I've written about it before on the forum, so won't list everything again (because it just makes me cross). And don't get me started on the painter. If I see him again (& he is supposed to come back but I doubt he will), I will hit him. I'm that fed up with the no-shows & ** workmanship. Argh. Yay for independent inspections, though - if we hadn't had one done, I suspect we would be still battling to get a few things finished properly (because it formed part of our "list of things to do at handover"). Re: One Porter Davis Frustration After Another.... 35Nov 28, 2007 9:31 pm Epiphany my friend built with them and im building with them .anyway he wasnt happy either with his painter( wonder if it was the same painter you had) he ended up having to paint the house all over again himself when he moved in. and of cause their were other other issues. ive upgraded my paint .hopefully i will get a good quality paint job. Re: One Porter Davis Frustration After Another.... 36Nov 29, 2007 5:41 am Clath Our interior wall paint job was so bad in the main living areas that the building manager who happened to be there on the day at handover rang the painter himself and gave him a Basil Fawlty. Most of our walls ended up with an extra coat.
The wall paint as used by the painters was mistinted between batches. We got left with the 2nd batch so any minor jobs done now require painting of a whole wall to hide the difference. Re: One Porter Davis Frustration After Another.... 37Nov 29, 2007 10:48 am My experience was that you got only two coats of watered down paint and that was poorly applied.
You really need one sealer coat and two top coats to get adequate coverage, but from what I can gather builders will only apply two coats. Re: One Porter Davis Frustration After Another.... 38Nov 29, 2007 12:54 pm We paid for the three coats. The issue wasn't so much the overall quality so much as touching up small portions that needed to be redone & redoing the stain on our wooden doors & windows.
He consistently did no-shows when he was supposed to come round...not even a phone call to say he wouldn't be there. The touch ups were **. Paint dripped on my wooden floor & on the carpet (& paint finger marks left on surfaces...not to mention the other men who work for him just dumped rubbish where they were standing outside). Things not being done at all. And the latest was when he came to touch up stain, he just painted it (stain) over the gloss finish & left it. No sanding. No gloss over the top. My doors & windows look like crap now. The site supervisor phoned him up about it but I haven't heard anything since & he certainly hasn't been round to fix it. Re: One Porter Davis Frustration After Another.... 39Nov 29, 2007 1:57 pm Ive upgraded my paint .so instead of the standard range of paint PD offers which is Wattyl sunfast. im having wattyl ID. Which means a sealer and 2 coats of paint hopefully Ive paid $1,300 for that upgrade . (coz it was a post contract variation.). I dont want to have to repaint anytime soon due to a ** job. so i hope they do a good job or else Re: One Porter Davis Frustration After Another.... 40Nov 29, 2007 5:34 pm We have the following paint in our contract....
External (fascia, gutter, downpipes, wodwork)-> Wattyl, Sunfast Low Sheen Internal (woodwork & Doors) --> Wattyl, EasyFlow Gloss Internal (Walls) --> Wattyl, Low Sheen washable Velvet Ceiling --> Wattyl, Suprtcover white.
