Browse Forums Building A New House Re: How often do you visit your site? 501Mar 17, 2015 12:53 pm I live 10ish minutes from my build and yesterday I was there 6 times. I had control of the site over the weekend to do electrical and data cabling (and some internal batts ) and we finished up after dark on a Sunday. 1. So yesterday morning I came back early to check for things we missed in the dark. 2. Data guy needed to fix an issue with the nbn box. 3. Site handover back to the SS. 4. Some forgotten electrical wiring (wires to front of porch posts). 5. More clean ups for batts as plaster is going up today 6. Forgot a ladder at the site. Big day. Oh, I did a drive by again this morning because I had niggling feeling that my porch wires were too low and the brickies were going to do them today (they were perfect!). I'm staying away till the plaster is done. Being there at this time (after I did work on the house) makes me feel anxious about the quality of our work. I'm not too worried about the trades there as they have shown exceptional work so far. Re: How often do you visit your site? 502Mar 17, 2015 1:17 pm Staying away till plaster done? Let's see how long that lasts haha Paddington 29 @ Blue Horizon Estate (Lot 105, Wattleridge Crescent, North Kellyville) Our Build Progress Blog: http://light487.wordpress.com/ Re: How often do you visit your site? 503Mar 17, 2015 4:39 pm light487 Staying away till plaster done? Let's see how long that lasts haha I know what you mean. I'm already itching to find out if there is fresh lot of insulation on the rubbish pile. Edit: We went again this evening. All internal plaster is in. No problems with my self-installed internal insulation Re: How often do you visit your site? 504Mar 18, 2015 7:59 am That's good.. hehe.. I've been driving my wife nuts with wanting to visit the site every week.. we haven't even started building yet.. lol.. I just like to go and check the surrounding streets and see what others are doing etc. Last time we went, we drove around the nearby streets and actually found another Paddington with the same Oxford facade as ours will be.. they of course paid for the rendering at the front, which will are not.. but it was interesting to see it there.. We finally started on Thursday last week and I've visited 4 times already I'm trying to restrict myself to 2-3 times a week because its a 45 minute round trip. Our rear neighbours have a roof now and will probably have brickies started by the time I go out there on the weekend. I like seeing the progress in the neighbourhood and being nosy at what people have done with their front landscaping etc Jen (& Dave) Plantation Bronte, Ormeau Ridge, Gold Coast QLD 12/03/2015 - Commencement... 26/08/2015 - Handover! viewtopic.php?f=31&t=76446 Re: How often do you visit your site? 506Mar 25, 2015 6:38 pm 1 - 4 times per week . Sometimes I go twice in one day if something has actually been done and I want to show the kids!! Re: How often do you visit your site? 507Mar 26, 2015 6:04 am I wish I could visit it more often.. I get SMSes and photos sent from other people during the week when major changes occur but after seeing some of the photos, I wish I could get out there to check things... have to wait for the weekends though. I'm going past usually twice a day (it's only 2min out of my way) either to and from work or to and from school run. If something is happening that could be 3 times a day...... I only went once today though (with the rain I hardly expected anything, but just checking all is well). Re: How often do you visit your site? 510Apr 30, 2015 8:38 pm Haha Dan I used to do that!! "Oh that bit of sand is different" or "oh I didn't see that machine last time" haha! Too funny. Re: How often do you visit your site? 511Apr 30, 2015 8:39 pm Mine is 30 minutes away and I usually go 2-3 times when hubby is home or just once when he's away at work (FIFO) if you go too often you just get disappointed with the lack of or slow progress. Re: How often do you visit your site? 512May 03, 2015 12:41 pm We have just had our offer on our land accepted. If it wasn't a 2hr drive I would need to take an AVO out on myself for stalking my own lot lol. Regards Graham and Kathy Owners of 2.5 acres of Paradise.......now working towards the house! Re: How often do you visit your site? 513May 05, 2015 12:14 pm We only live 10 minutes away and our kids go to school nearby, so we go twice a day. If you live close, I highly recommend you go as much as possible! Some parts of the build get done so quickly, you can easily end up missing faults if you're not there enough. $395 Fixed Priced Landscape Plans for DA M: 0435 127 244 | W: bluegumdesign.com.au | E: info@bluegumdesign.com.au Residential | Commercial | Industrial Re: How often do you visit your site? 514May 08, 2015 8:48 pm Our son goes to the school a few streets up , we started him there this year to settle in. So we go twice a day. I go in the mornings only though as I do drop off with hubby. He picks up from school alone in afternoon. Sometimes we might go on a third trip of the day if something exciting has happened. We only live less than 10mins away Re: How often do you visit your site? 515Jun 14, 2015 6:32 pm We live 4 hours from our block and at the most can only go up every 2nd week due to work rosters. We go up and camp there for a weekend everynow and then. It's going to kill me not being able to see it regularly once we are at the build stage Re: How often do you visit your site? 516Jun 23, 2015 6:10 pm Hello, I am new to this forum and signed ups because I have a question about our builder. We live overseas so we have a family member who checks site for us on a weekly basis. They builder said we needed to make an appointment, but when I tried to make one, they are now saying that we are not allowed to visit the site unless it is to check a progress payment. My understanding is that the builder is not allowed to restrict reasonable site visits? We have already noticed and had fixed many defects (such as incorrect cabinet finishes) due to regular checks. Has anyone else had this experience, and is it within the builder's rights to prevent us from checking for defects at important stages (ie. tiling in, cabinets in, waterproofing in, etc.)? Re: How often do you visit your site? 517Jun 23, 2015 6:53 pm We live 400m away from our site so I go past every morning and most evenings. Tend to get out and look around in the mornings. Re: How often do you visit your site? 518Jun 26, 2015 11:29 pm MrBee, I would love to live that close to my build! Not being able to visit regularly is going to be sooooo hare I want to get our shed build just so I can install cameras and watch the build from a far .... My thoughts are that 'reasonable' access to your build should be allowed.. I am paying a lot of money for someone to build MY house, I feel I should have a right to regularly observe it's progress and ensure the quality is what I expect it to be. That being so, I have heard of builders being quite restrictive. Re: How often do you visit your site? 519Jun 26, 2015 11:33 pm We live 6mins away from our build!
