It's been lonely besides from couple of regulars keeping me company. Re: SnowyOwl: Building with DAH, South of the River. WA 122Feb 26, 2011 8:51 pm Thank you duke, that sure is a nice welcome back! I guess not much has been happening then if it's been lonely on the boards. Re: SnowyOwl: Building with DAH, South of the River. WA 123Feb 27, 2011 12:11 am So, an update: Well nothing really to report, my cabinets are in and scratched. I'm not convinced on the whole tiling thing - I can see myself ripping them off the walls and doing it myself. The saying ' want a job done well, do it yourself ' springs to mind time and time again. But they've not tiled yet and they may do a really great job, so I guess I ought to just wrap my neck in and wait and see! lol I really don't like the whole 'we can patch that' attitude. If any of us wanted a 'patch job' done we'd be making over an old house on a shoestring budget. Not paying huge bucks for new house. Oh, we've had the acid wash on the bricks and all that lovely green is coming out of the bricks. Not sure when they do the chlorine wash but I hope it gets all the green off. Oh the taps in my laundry are being sorted which is great! So - happy with that. Still waiting on the mouldings to be redone. I think my kitchen worktop will be installed in about 3 weeks and I'm really looking forward to seeing that. Re: SnowyOwl: Building with DAH, South of the River. WA 124Feb 27, 2011 4:35 am Oh, the cremaic soap holders aren't level either the ensuite is higher than the bathroom. OH decided not to move it cause it's never the same. I hope they do yours properly. My tiler basically had too many cooks that's why the inconsistency in the bath and ensuite. Do you know where your tiler/s were from? Re: SnowyOwl: Building with DAH, South of the River. WA 125Feb 27, 2011 12:06 pm I've no idea where the tiler had previously worked. I don't tend to ask them. Maybe i should, and ask to see their previous work, before they make a start on mine! lol Re: SnowyOwl: Building with DAH, South of the River. WA 126Feb 27, 2011 4:17 pm No No, as in race/ethnic profie. Re: SnowyOwl: Building with DAH, South of the River. WA 127Feb 27, 2011 4:21 pm lol I thought you meant that! Re: SnowyOwl: Building with DAH, South of the River. WA 128Mar 03, 2011 10:58 pm You're already that far beyond lock-up?! Wow! I never got a chance to run around your house... Now when we're "kinda" neighbours I will have NO idea of the orientation of your house, while you still have oppertunities to trounce through ours. A quick question, if you don't mind? WHen did your plans go to council, and when did they come out? In 6 months time we go away for a month, would be great if we didn't have the house for that viewtopic.php?f=31&t=46664 Building in Baldivis, Western Australia. First home, with Impressions. Would love it if you were to stop by some time! Re: SnowyOwl: Building with DAH, South of the River. WA 129Mar 03, 2011 11:31 pm Hi BCJ hahahahaha, just think how weird that's going to be! You'll not have been in my house and I will be able to walk around yours and know everything about it before you even move in! I'll even be able to see what tiles you're having in your bathrooms! Scary! Oh hey, we met one of your neighbours who will be living opposite you (ish) a while ago... it's a really funny story! The jist of the story is, you have no idea what people are actually doing in your house when you're not there! (nothing umm... untoward - just really funny!) To be honest I can't really remember the exact date (it seems so long ago!), but it took just under 6 weeks for planning permission to be granted. Re: SnowyOwl: Building with DAH, South of the River. WA 130Mar 04, 2011 1:03 pm I think we've met the neighbours opposite us. A Woman and a man, with a brittish (or possibly irish... Wait, no brittish) accent? They seemed really nice. Personally, I think having the neighbours be nosing around your house during construction just gives you something to talk about, really. Provided nothing untoward, obviously 6 weeks.... Hmmm... I'd much rather it be 8 I think! 6 weeks would leave the builder about 5 and a half months to build our house, and I think they'd do it! Have you met any other neighbours yet? Sorry to de-rail the thread... I'd love to talk about your pictures, but the damn work computer just won't allow it! You would probably be in my May then, you'd think? viewtopic.php?f=31&t=46664 Building in Baldivis, Western Australia. First home, with Impressions. Would love it if you were to stop by some time! Re: SnowyOwl: Building with DAH, South of the River. WA 131Mar 04, 2011 3:46 pm lol - May well be the same couple we've met - they were British. Really lovely couple and they had a very funny story to tell! Yep, I agree with you about having things to talk about with the neighbours, it's an amazing ice breaker and it helps create a lovely community feeling. Unless, of course, there are problems! Let me think, there are 5 other houses being built on our road and we've met 3 families. Could you not ask your builder to delay the start time of your house, so it works with your schedule rather than theirs? I'm hoping for an end of April handover so we can move in May. Timing is very much of the essence as we've only got a small window to get things done before my OH goes away again. If we miss it, I'm not sure when we'll be able to move - could be months! eeek! Sadly no pictures on my thread anymore. All gone - for security purposes. And, don't worry - you've not de-railed my thread or broken any kind of forum etiquette. You're talking to me and it's my thread! So, it's ok. And, talking of threads, you've not uploaded your floorplan to your thread yet! Re: SnowyOwl: Building with DAH, South of the River. WA 132Mar 04, 2011 6:03 pm *sighs* I miss pictures.how about pics of internals as it dosn't show where you are for landmarks? Hows the tiling going? Re: SnowyOwl: Building with DAH, South of the River. WA 133Mar 04, 2011 6:38 pm I know, I like seeing pictures too. Maybe I'll put up some internal photos when there's something worthwhile to see. My house isn't looking as nice as yours right now. Funny you should ask about the tiling. They started yesterday, Yay!! So far so good. I went in to have a look today and the tilers were doing a great job, so far. Really impressed with the tiling around the doors! I just love it when I can see they have pride in their work. So, I thanked the team leader for doing a great job and highlighted what I loved the best. He seemed rather chuffed with that, and I left them to get on with it - feeling very happy! Also, our garage floor was laid today, which was a lovely surprise. I wasn't expecting that. Although, the floor doesn't come up as far as I thought it would. I thought I'd be able to see just one course of bricks under the garage entry door, but I see an extra half a brick - making the step up a little higher than normal. Which will be a problem for me as the step is too high. I think I'm going to need a lift installed! lol Re: SnowyOwl: Building with DAH, South of the River. WA 134Mar 04, 2011 9:28 pm Is your garage pad sloping down out the garage opening? You can tell when you look along the brick wall the level of the pad changes against the brick. Yours might not have it due to the level of the ground as mind is up more compared to the street. Anyone with similar sloping driveway is done the same in the garage pad? Re: SnowyOwl: Building with DAH, South of the River. WA 135Mar 04, 2011 10:30 pm umm, I don't think it is. From what I can remember it's the same level all the way round. But I'm not convinced it's been done properly to be honest. I think that's my next investigation... garage pads! It just - somethings not right, it could be the fact that it's too big of a step down into the garage - and that's what's bothering me. Re: SnowyOwl: Building with DAH, South of the River. I can't wait for my tiles - to see what it will look like as it has been ages since prestart. I'm surprised at your garage floor (yay for more progress though!), I thought it was only supposed to be a 1 course drop too? My plan says garage floor -100mm (a brick itself is 85mm) - so it shouldn't be 1.5 bricks I would think? hmmm... Re: SnowyOwl: Building with DAH, South of the River. WA 137Mar 04, 2011 10:42 pm duke Is your garage pad sloping down out the garage opening? You can tell when you look along the brick wall the level of the pad changes against the brick. Yours might not have it due to the level of the ground as mind is up more compared to the street. Anyone with similar sloping driveway is done the same in the garage pad? My garage floor will have a slope down from the house towards the drive - the footings for the garage walls had a step in them around half way along. This is because our block has a slope from the house down to the street. Re: SnowyOwl: Building with DAH, South of the River. WA 138Mar 04, 2011 10:49 pm lol, I was just writing a post to you on the other thread! Thank you, I'm glad you've told me that about the garage floor. That's what I thought too, a one course brick drop. The house we are in is a one course drop and a couple the new neighbours have a one course drop too. So something isn't right, in fact I know it's not right because I can feel it's not. Does that make sence? Sometimes you just know when somethings not right. *sigh* Our house is on a slope too... could that be the problem then? Re: SnowyOwl: Building with DAH, South of the River. WA 139Mar 04, 2011 11:06 pm I think it depends on the slope if you need one in the garage itself. Our block has quite a big slope and I have no idea how a sloped garage floor will look - we didn't get a choice, or even told it would be that way until we asked our SS at the brickies meeting why our footings had the 1c step in them.
Sometimes you just 'know' something's not quite as it should be - all you can do is send them an email Tuesday and ask I guess? they may have a reason, but it would be nice if they told you before they did it! (or it could just be plain wrong). Re: SnowyOwl: Building with DAH, South of the River. WA 140Mar 04, 2011 11:22 pm The slope is sloping 1Course down. We asked the SS and he said it is new requirement to slope water away so just wanted to check and looks like it what they do now.
