Re: building on an acre help with plan please 15Nov 04, 2010 7:47 pm Our last kitchen was a galley style and had 1200mm between front and rear benches- I found that to be a good distance. YOu could then add that space to the Theatre room. Wasn not sure about distant beween the two benches, that would give me an exrta 300 Re: building on an acre help with plan please 17Nov 04, 2010 9:11 pm Ok, here are some comments, but first have to say, I know nothing about your family, your lifestyle, the aspect of the house or views. 1. The meals room has no connection to the outside except for a swing door. Where will the door sit when open? Will it sit across the window beside it when open? 2. Why do the windows in the meals room have high sills, these windows are 1200 high (900 sills) when the bedroom windows are 1800 high (300 sills). Why is one not a sliding door to open the area to the outdoors? Would a corner window next to the theatre wall also help light the room 3. Why do you have two cavity sliding doors of the entry? 4. Why does the sitting room open off the entry and not open the house plan up by opening into the main centre of the house, door can close it off when required. 5. Opposite to point 4, why doesn’t the study open off the entry? If you will use this for work, the two cavity sliding doors and the study of the entry will allow for a public and private space. 6. Why have you placed the hallway door past the linen room? This room will mostly operate with the laundry and the bedrooms. 7. I do love the pantry which is almost exactly like our proposed kitchen. Can you add a narrow shelf along the other side of the pantry to double the use of the room? 8. I would reduce the kitchen aisle width down to 1200-1300 to be more comfortable to use when moving between the two surfaces. Is it worth sliding it down the plan to open the area at the top of the bench for another space? Small table and chair for sitting, afternoon tea? Currently you have two unused spaces. 9. Personally I wouldn’t dedicate a room to the theatre with little to no windows as this plan as it doesn’t allow for another use; this room will always be dark especially with the verandah in front of the windows. Is this where you and your family will watch TV all the time. Will kids/grandkids play here? 10. Is it worth moving the WM and tub to the linen location to centralize the plumbing a bit more but also to remove the noisy plumbing off the master bedroom wall. 11. I would also go so far to suggest flipping the laundry/bathroom module to remove the laundry entry door away from the master bed, then pull the MB entry door down the hall 1000mm so it opens cleanly against a wall and not hang into the bedroom, then add some art on the clean wall in the hall. I hope the comments give you some food for thought. Re: building on an acre help with plan please 18Nov 07, 2010 12:01 pm You have some good ideas.I wil flip bathroom and laundry.Sitting is for some antiques I have.I would like to have entry table on study wall.Hallway door is past linen because of RA,don't want to make sitting room any smaller. There should be enough light in tv room, veranda is 1.6m this allows winter sun in etc.Tv will be in between windows, can't put it on oposite wall because of glare other wall will have fire.Point 8 there is an 8 seater table in meals area, where are unused spaces?.Do you think bathroom size is ok to have W I S ? Re: help with plan please 19Nov 07, 2010 12:37 pm I would have stackers, or bi folds out to verandah from meals area. open it up, so you are dining alfresco but under your meals roof. do you not want sliding doors with a window / french doors from the bedrooms out to the verandah? seems a shame there is no way to get out except via the front or back door...when you have a fab deck to sit out on . the cost of the sill and bricks beneath, would go towards the cost of the doors, so you might not be out of pocket to have openings. david 242...wow! great spotting and good ideas. come look at my plan, and tweak mine before it gets built next week...hurry! (thread below, plans page 9) and yes to WIS. looks an ok size. why not! Re: help with plan please 20Nov 07, 2010 2:20 pm Can I ask why the master bed is so huge but some of the living areas are smaller? Personally I would take some of the room from bed 1 and make the theatre room bigger Lauren and Tony: Building our first home in the Vaucluse estste, Doreen, Melbourne http://laurenandtonyshouse.blogspot.com/ Quote of the Day: "I know what you wanted but I did it this way becausee I thought it would look better" This is a very tight fit, I'm not sure if you'll be able to achieve what you've described.
