Browse Forums Building A New House Our build with Mirvac in Glenfield 41Sep 02, 2011 7:00 am You are awesome. This is fantastic. Will give us a lot of material to talk to the sales agent. Yes, our reasons for moving are the same. With a 3 year old boy, who needs a lot of space, a unit is a bit small. Interestingly, we have gone for a lot of the same extras as you. Just have to clarify a few things with the sales agent. Our home was going over budget as we asked them to put the cost of fencing and retaining wall in the tender and it was $15k - a bit excessive. We are looking at getting a quote externally now. I am pretty sure we can get it cheaper:-) Our lot is on sovereign circuit. We have taken the corner plot there. Hence the drama on retaining wall and fencing. I am still not clear if it is a requirement to get a retaining wall. If it is not, I would rather get the fence. Thank you so much for the info. Even though it is the beginning, we are very excited. I will be in touch with u. We may be neighbors soon. Such a nice little part of the world that is convenient for all transport and beautiful surrounds and facilities. As an FYI I noticed that Mirvac started clearing the land further out from you guys in preparation for the road that will be built for the new subdivisions. You've been very busy! But being me, I have a little question as well In that first pic of the side path, do you have some drainage under the soil and if yes, what kind? I can see some PVC pipe sticking out ... Oh yes, and how are you going to treat the termite piping? What are you going to cover it with? Thanks My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: Our build with Mirvac in Glenfield 52Sep 06, 2011 10:07 pm Hi Lex... yes very busy... as for drainage yes... i dug a trench next to the brickwork about 50cm deep all the way along and put a 65mm ag pipe all along the edge. I then drilled a 7cm diameter hole into the lowest stormwater drain probably about 70cm deep and plugged the ag pipe in and siliconed it all together. I then filled over the pipe and tench with about 1 tonne of recycled agg strangely fun but lots of work i'll steal my image from another thread to show what i meant..... http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/k573/qonyx2010/agpipe-1.jpg oh and the consensus to the question was 'she'll be right' so i took that as gospel LOL Project History Deposit - 20/4/2010 Land Settled - 20/8/2010 Council - 30/9/2010 Slab - 17/11/2010 Bricks - 28/01/2011 Roof - 5/02/2011 Gyprock - 4/03/2011 Re: Our build with Mirvac in Glenfield 53Sep 07, 2011 6:53 am Hey thanks Q ! Good work! And so you didn't even need any special joiners to join the 2 pipes, just the silicone! We will need to do something similar in one wet spot, but we only have the water tank overflow pipe to tap into so not sure if we should be touching it at all (and there's no room for another pvc pipe!). Anyway. And the termite piping? Did you use sand or soil? (sorry for too many questions!! ) My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: Our build with Mirvac in Glenfield 54Sep 07, 2011 9:01 am No didn't use anything else.. made sure that the hole for the ag pipe into the stormwater drain was as tight fit as possible and used an excessive amount of silicone to be on the safe side.... from reading other posts you don't have to worry if dirt and other particles enter as it doesn't really matter for stormwater (at least that what i was told) so it doesn't have to be such a tight fit as for termite piping.. i didn't really pay too much attention to it... but it is only a couple of centremetres under a combination of aggregate and sand......( but definitely no soil in there) Project History Deposit - 20/4/2010 Land Settled - 20/8/2010 Council - 30/9/2010 Slab - 17/11/2010 Bricks - 28/01/2011 Roof - 5/02/2011 Gyprock - 4/03/2011 Our build with Mirvac in Glenfield 56Sep 08, 2011 5:33 am Wow Q, you are a brave man...it must have taken a LOT of sweat for that:-) looks awesome though...we have to see how we go.
