Relocation of existing house

Does anyone have experience in the relocation of an old house?

We currently have a modest 2 bedroom fibro house in Southern Sydney. It's in good nick but it's time for an upgrade.

Rather than just bulldoze it, we are trying to work out if it is feasible (financially and otherwise) to relocate the house onto some cheap land down the south coast to hold onto some of the value of the property.

Any feedback or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
We chose this route with our old house before building in its spot. We sold the original house and thought it would be better to sell and get a bit of cash for it rather than spend money to bulldoze it. There was also some sentiment tied up in the old house because we had just finished renovating it from top to toe (over 12 years) and didn't want to watch all that effort be destroyed. In the end, it took four months to get the house removalist to come and take it away. They claimed there were issues getting the permits they needed to place the house on the new block. We had been warned prior to selling the house that these delays were common but we took our chances and were stung.

If you were to relocate it to your own block of land, then at least you would be in the loop about the permits and in better control of the timing. Likewise with demolition, you would have better control of the timing.
Thanks for the feedback.
I'll have to do some homework on the destination council to understand the hurdles involved with this type of project which may slow it down.
Wouldn't want to get caught in limbo holding up the builder on the new house waiting for the old house to be moved.
Cheers
