Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 25, 2010 2:26 pm Can someone who is building a Mirvac Home and is quite far along in the process let me know how things are progressing for them? I would like to know if you've encountered any (apart from the usual) problems along the way? Positive feedback would be appreciated too! We purchased a Home and Land package at Spring Farm and settled on the land a few weeks ago. Plans have been in Council since Mid October. I hoped someone might be able to tell me how long it usually takes for approval in Camden Council? I am just hoping that something happens before Christmas, ie, slab etc....am I being too optimistic? Re: Building a Mirvac Home in Spring Farm 3Oct 27, 2010 6:33 am Hi jodge and thanks for your reply! It's great to know all these 'secrets' of the building game. I am really looking forward to living in Spring Farm, I've always loved Camden, but always thought it was too far from the City. But considering neither my husband or myself work in the city, the only time we'll venture in there is on the weekend, and as it's under an hour, it's very do-able, so we're happy. Thanks again for your help, and any other advice you have for me is always welcome! Cheers again. Re: Building a Mirvac Home in Spring Farm 4Nov 02, 2010 10:02 pm we are building with mirvac but doing so in glenfield... so far have been happy with the way things are progressing.. we took about 10 weeks in council but this was with campbeltown council. we started the process in april this year and we have just started to get some action on our site.. will let you know how we get on Project History Deposit - 20/4/2010 Land Settled - 20/8/2010 Council - 30/9/2010 Slab - 17/11/2010 Bricks - 28/01/2011 Roof - 5/02/2011 Gyprock - 4/03/2011 Re: Building a Mirvac Home in Spring Farm 5Nov 03, 2010 11:16 am Hi qonyx, thanks for the information. Would appreciate anything you can tell us when you start the build. Did you get with a price increase or were you lucky enough to avoid that? I am hoping we don't get hit with that, we'll just have to wait and see I guess. Not sure how that works when that happens, whether the bank helps out or what, would you (or anyone) know? Hopefully we're not meant to just have another $10K ****** around. Thanks again! Re: Building a Mirvac Home in Spring Farm 6Nov 03, 2010 4:52 pm Hi we are nearing the end of our build with Mirvac. I suppose I cant say much as it will depend on your SS. Thats the most important thing- if yours is good then should be a good experience. Make sure you get all things in writing. If you ring and discuss something send an email asking them to confirm what you had discussed via email. You may just need it if anything goes worng. My other tip- just relating to building in general not just Mirvac- Know and accept that things are going to go wrong or not as expected- as long as these are rectified thats all that matters. We havnt had any probs getting things changed as long as we have had the paperwork to back it up Good luck with it- its a long journey- but one im hoping will be very worth it (SOON I HOPE) Built our Granton in 2010 Handover December 3rd- wooohooo! Now the hard work has began.... Retaining walls and landscaping Re: Building a Mirvac Home in Spring Farm 7Nov 03, 2010 6:28 pm Hi danniellec, Thanks for your advice. This is actually the second time we've built, the previous time was with Masterton, but it was over 10 years ago and I've completely forgotten how long the process took. I do remember we had a few problems along the way, but nothing too major, wrong tiles in the laundry (they did offer to fix, but they actually looked ok, so I just stuck with them) and a few minor things which I could cope with. There is so much involved in building a house so I guess you just have to use common sense to realise that things can and do go wrong, with human error etc, you just have to know when to make an issue and when to let it go. I know where you're coming from regarding getting everything in writing, and I always send a follow up email confirming what was said in a phone call, just to be safe. I guess I just want it to get started, they are saying we're going to have a wet summer, which isn't too good, and of course we don't want to be hit with a price increase. Fingers crossed we'll hear something soon. Thanks again! Re: Building a Mirvac Home in Spring Farm 8Nov 03, 2010 7:46 pm Hi Pace, We started to get some action on our site over the weekend. Our area was fenced off and i yesterday got a call from our site supervisor. We didn't get hit with a price increase but the admin person handling our file tried her hardest to avoid us having to pay the extra charge. I guess it comes down to whether the extended time is caused by you or them and what ever your contract tender expires. You should do your best to try to get everything you need done prior to this date. Start having the discussions with the admin person now and they will generally try to look after you. I have been pretty happy though so experience has been pretty good. What would you say is the difference with a good one and a bad one? We got a call from ours yesterday which I think is not usual (as our admin said that all communication should be done through them) - so I guess this is a good start. Its frustrating but what can you do!! The writing thing for us has been the most valuable learning curve! we have had a few things go worng and because of the paperwork they were more then happy to fix them- yep we ended wth a different benchtop and they were willing to change it but we ended up settling for compensation- time is of the essence!!! Good luck with your build- your brave going for a second time, I cant imagine it!!! I suppose for me a good SS makes sure you are involved and willing to talk to you about what is going on in your home! Also acknowledging your concerns and showing that they are willing to find out info if you think something is not right. If I call my SS he rings back that day if not straight away, he is happy to take us through the house whenever we ask- even at odd hours. My only complaint is nailing down a finish date! I can understand that they dont like to say in case it dosnt happen and people saying 'but you said....' but its frustrating!!! Built our Granton in 2010 Handover December 3rd- wooohooo! Now the hard work has began.... Retaining walls and landscaping Re: Building a Mirvac Home in Spring Farm 11Nov 04, 2010 9:59 am When we chose our colours, I assumed we would have left that day with a printout and samples of the colours we'd chosen and then perhaps receive the final in the mail later. But we didn't receive anything on the day, which is a pity, because that's when it's still all fresh in your mind. When we did get the colour information in the mail, they had the wrong Caesar Stone benchtops, so we had to get that fixed. We haven't had too many hold up's along the way (so far) but I worry that Council will take a long time and that may hold things up, but like you say, what can you do....We made very little amendments to the house so that's always good I guess. Anyway, time will tell. Thanks everyone for all your help! Re: Building a Mirvac Home in Spring Farm 12Jun 02, 2013 9:08 pm Anybody building in the Stage 3 release?
