Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 19, 2010 10:49 pm Hi everyone,
YAY! It's my turn to start a building thread We are a youngish (if you consider early 30s young!) family of 3-for-now building a custom designed double story home (approx 30sq) in an established inner North-East suburb of Melbourne on a 400sqm subdivided block. We bought the land (with buildings on it) in early April 2009, settled mid November 2009, demolished in Feb/March 2010 and have only just signed our contracts with a very small custom builder after a lenghthy time at council I guess you could say we technically started today as we have some pegs on the block! Slab is supposed to be happening next week. Here are some pics of what we stated with to where we are at now.... The pool was right at the front and VERY 1950's local swimming pool like!! We had approval to keep the pool and use it to store a water bladder and convert it into a cellar but the cost of converting it was wayyyyy too much so the pool went. Yes, we are on an incline but luckily the site is quite level. Re: Mcnik's Manor - Pics and Plans 6Oct 20, 2010 3:27 pm ooow, that first house had such a nice front facade!! you werent tempted to copy it onto your new plan were you?! looking gorgeous!! well done. Re: Mcnik's Manor - Pics and Plans 7Oct 20, 2010 4:33 pm Haha we were tempted - NOT! It wasn't actually a house at the front. There was the double garage (right on the footpath as you can see) and next to that was an indoor swimming pool enclosure, the garage was attached to the pool on one side and a two bedroom granny flat/pool house behind. The buildings wrapped around the boundary in like a U shape with a courtyard in the middle. I'm sure it was probably cutting edge, ultra modern for its time but it was obvious it hadn't been used/looked after for decades. It was all originally part of the house next door - seperated by their driveway. To get to this point (starting to build) was A LOT of work. We have learned a lot from this experience so far but it has been enjoyable (not sure if DH agrees!). Looking forward to sharing more pics as it all unfolds Re: Mcnik's Manor - Almost a slab - Pic heavy 8Nov 17, 2010 4:29 pm Here are the happenings during the past week. I have a blog so will keep my comments short on here. We have currently got the ground floor frame done. Next week the brickies will come and do the garage, and the steel beam man will be paying a visit! I guess that will be it for a while until mid Jan. Enjoy!
