Browse Forums Building A New House Re: YAY! I can finally start my own thread!! 21Dec 15, 2010 10:26 pm Hi thirsty It basically was overnight!! We are really lucky that we live about 300m from where the new house is being built, so every night the kids and I take a walk over and see what progress they have made. We are taking photos from the same point everynight so at the end we can put it all together in a movie and watch the house go up. The first day they had all the frames made and were all laying on the ground, so basically all they had to do today was stand up all the framework. I must admit I really like our builder, he's fantastic. As far as where we live goes he would have to be one of the best and he's working so hard considering that our town had some pretty bad flooding last week (nothing like Wagga or Forbes) but some houses were flooded due to the new storm water drainage systems not fully being up and running. Our builder is now inundated with phone calls and jobs to fix flooded houses. I must get on here more often and check out other peoples threads, haven't really done that yet. I can't believe how excited I am about the building process. Re: YAY! I can finally start my own thread!! 22Dec 15, 2010 10:32 pm At this rate, you will be in before you know it. Its so good that you are loving your builder. We are so far away from seeing a slab so Im just getting excited by other peoples progress. It keeps me sane atm Re: YAY! I can finally start my own thread!! 23Dec 15, 2010 10:40 pm Our slab was poured back in September, so I feel like it's been a long time coming. Not to mention it took me 10 years to even get hubby to agree to build the house. It's been a dream of mine since I can remember to design and build my own home. Now I have a little piece out on our farm I can call mine. Do you have a thread on here yet, have you got all your plans done? Re: YAY! I can finally start my own thread!! 26Dec 15, 2010 10:54 pm Thanks Chook07, I'm still trying to convince myself that it's a whopper . Everybody is saying that to us but we feel we could of gone bigger in some areas but budget restrictions didn't allow . Still want to spend more making sure we get good quality not quantity!! Did you design that yourself. It's actually similar in size to mine. Ours is 263.4sq/m of living space and about 426.3sq/m all up with verandahs and garage. What do you think of the size of yours. Now that building has started on ours there probably are concerns with some sizing, more like width of the central area and also the hallways could have been a bit wider, they are only 1.1m wide. With 3 small kids I can see alot of grubby hand prints and scratches along these walls!!! Re: YAY! I can finally start my own thread!! 28Dec 16, 2010 10:54 am WOW that looks awesome! It's HUGE!!! Also love your exterior colour selections too - think it will look tops! In the meantime i am looking forward to reading up on everyone else's progress and seeing their dreams come to fruition... Well done and looking forward to seeing it all take shape! Custom Build 30Dec 20, 2010 7:44 pm WOW do I have efficient builders or what, it's only the second week of building and things are moving along nicely. This past week has seen the alfresco area out the back somewhat erected, the roof frames almost completed (I think). The septic tank has gone in and the soakage pit covered in. With an outback dunny erected on top for the builders It's been all go! I tried to earn brownie points last week I gave the builders a carton of beer for their Christmas drinks Hopefully they think I'm a good person to build a top quality house for!!!!! I can finally start my own thread!! 32Feb 22, 2011 3:00 pm Hi blueblueblue! Things are moving along great. I have been really worried about putting any info on here mostly because I have felt really guilty building our new house with all the floods that have been going on in Australia. I didn't want to offend anyone . We have also been amazingly busy with our harvest, which went from the end of November to start of Feb. I will however give an update for those interested. The roof is now on and the walls almost complete, tiles are chosen and I'm heading to Mildura tomorrow to chose all the light fittings. I have ordered all our kitchen appliances now and they are just waiting to be installed. We ended up going all westinghouse appliances with 2 ovens (a 600mm & a 900mm) built in microwave, 700l side by side fridge, 900mm cooktop and 900mm canopy rangehood. Here are the latest photos: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ This is our tile selection for the main living areas, it's a 500 x 500 porcelain tile. We are having the same in the bathroom but it will be 330 x 330. We are also using this feature tile in the entrance way and then some Tosetto's (I think that's what it's called) up our hallways to create a flow on. This would have made the front entrance look much more central and when we put up the exterior lights it would have looked a whole lot better. I guess you live and learn though. Unfortunately we will never build again so this is it for us! Will hopefully put more updates on here now that harvest is finished. Re: YAY! I can finally start my own thread!! 37Feb 24, 2011 4:28 pm Wow Nitch, how far have you guys come. Its looking fantastic. Love it all Re: The decisions to be made are doing my head in!!!! 38Feb 24, 2011 9:21 pm OK! I am officially and utterly going insane . Got home today from Mildura where I went to look at lighting and furniture and all I have come away with is 4 plain white fans with lights for the bedrooms. Arrgghhhh I can seem to find anything that I really want, even with an interior decorator helping, whom might I add has been my rock!! We are having a modern country sort of look with very neutral colours. My kitchen is Parchment heritage style cupboards and my benches are Diamond Gloss Laminex in Lunar Stone, all my handles are in brushed stainless steel (haven't chosen a design yet) Now I need to choose pendant lighting ( 2 or 3 singles) for over our breakfast bar and a big pendant for over the dining table. I fell in love with one in DeLights yesterday but they measured it all up and it would hang too low over the dining table and it doesn't have any single pendants that match. Anyone got any suggestions. I think I like the black metal framing and would like the lights to face downwards but that's about it for specs. I also found some Coach exterior lights that I quite fancied but just wasn't sure about the colour I should go. Maybe one of you have a suggestion. Exterior colours are Roof: Shale Grey Gutters: Ironstone Fascia: surfmist Windows & verandah posts: White Garage doors: Ironstone Front Door: Black Walls: Solver Citron Seems lots of colours but they all blend really well. MJust try and get some sleep now as I have to work out how to tell my lovely builder that I am not keen on our bathtub. Maybe it's an illusion as they haven't tiled yet but it seems very narrow width wise. It's an 1800mm bath but not sure I like the width. Aarrghhh the dilemmas Re: YAY! I can finally start my own thread!! 39Feb 25, 2011 10:14 am NItch-have you had a look at any of the online lighting companies? There is a huge range available online-even if you use them to sort out what you are actually looking for......
