Re: Building a Coral - Portsea in Hervey Bay - Kitchen P6 104Mar 24, 2011 9:02 pm looking great guys. everything has gone so well for you so far. lovely reading about your build. has gone so much smoother than some others on here. i was in the bay today. next time i'll have to try and find your estate. we are starting on our house on monday. i guess i better start a build thread too Re: Building a Coral - Portsea in Hervey Bay - Kitchen P6 105Mar 24, 2011 9:41 pm Hi Tamara, Marilyn is looking forward to trying out the new kitchen, I am looking forward to teaching the dishes to swim (in the dishwasher) , we are both looking forward to PCI hopefully around first week after Easter. The windows are Grey tint, should help a little with the heat during the summer months. Have you heard anything with your approvals yet? shouldn't be long now before you are starting building and going through all the highs (no lows) of the whole process. It is not too hard to find the estate, it is one of the higher points around the Bay. Most of the trades and builders (like most places) are a little quiet at the moment so this has probably helped with the time taken to build our home. It is also a good time to buy carpets and/or tiles, lighting and furniture/electrical, most retail outlets are doing good deals. Look forward to following your build thread Cheers, John and Marilyn Our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=39708&start=0 Retaining wall for fill side 3/12/10 Cut and fill 6/12/10 Screw Piers 17/12/10 Rear retaining wall 22/12/10 Under slab plumbing and electrics 20/1/11 Formwork and slab 29/1/11 Frames 01/02 Roof tiling 14/02 Doors, plumb, elect rough in 16 -21/02 Bricks 23/02 Plastering start 2/03 Re: Building a Coral - Portsea in Hervey Bay - Kitchen P6 107Mar 24, 2011 9:59 pm John and Marilyn it was great to meet you both and your home looks fantastic ... perfect choice of colours, even if I do say so myself What a fantastic aerial shot you got ... you did really well getting such a perfect photo! Won't be long now and you'll be Queenslanders permanently. You both read the fine print properly when you bought up here didn't you? You know ... the bit about dumping the blue jumpers and being a fully fledged maroons supporters! ~ trying to build our dream home by the sea ~ Re: Building a Coral - Portsea in Hervey Bay - Kitchen P6 108Mar 24, 2011 10:16 pm Hi Nic, Must have known something about moving to QLD when we bought the Patrol (could have been blue over silver). Really looking forward to the move now so we can get started in the garden and landscaping. We have arranged for the driveway, path and alfresco to be done in the "Salt and Pepper" exposed aggregate before we move up there, as soon after PCI as possible. Down to 29 working days (not that I am counting!!!) before going on leave and preparing for the move, it will be here very quickly, only seems like a few weeks back we were still in Christmas mood and hoping for a start day. Talk again soon. We found your home on the estate and actually talked to the builder. I believe he had just about finished in the garage and was expecting to pour the slab for the water tank the following day. He showed us all the rock you and your neighbors had/were experiencing in the preparation for the foundations. He remembered the day our block was cut and filled and couldn't believe we didn't have much rock to deal with (pure luck), he saw the excavator arrive early in the morning and had gone not long after lunch. As you have indicated, he is not the friendliest builder around, I just hope he can finish your home without any more delays so you can move in and enjoy the house and the area around the estate. Will catch up for a chat soon. Fantastic size kitchen, our is a little more compact than yours. What a wonderful shot from the plane. I can even see our house. We have the tilers in at the moment, so hopefully the is light at the end of the tunnel. The builder isn't easy to comunicate with, every person we have dealt with has made a comment about him, so it can't be just us. I must admit it has been an ordeal, but we have learnt so much for next time, if were game. We were only talking yesterday to a concreter about the exposed aggregate in salt and pepper. We still have to go for a drive and see what we like the look of. Hope your move goes smoothly. I'm sure I'll see you up here soon. Thats when the hard work starts with the main bulk of the packing, then back to site for PCI. 1 to 2 weeks after that for hand over. Then around 10 days to get the driveway, patio and internal tiling done, and the last of the packing. Pay about a hundred bills!!!! so they will let us leave NSW and get a new passport for Sunny, Wet, Windy, Cyclone prone Queensland, "Bring it on" Removalists booked for 28th or 29th May, couple of days to get back to our new home to greet the truck and we are in, Yipee. Broke but happy (we hope) Enough rambling, getting old with all this waiting. Painters started today, should have some photos tomorrow if our resident photographer is in attendance. Small hiccup with the build over the weekend, Water tank installed only to discover it is not the one we ordered. We ordered the superslim model to ensure enough room for a path between it and the future shed. You can see how this one is short on the slab and virtually as deep as the slab, where in fact the correct one will be 220mm skinnier than this one and about 100mm short of the slab at each end. I can't see why it will change with your build especially as you will be using the same SS. Any further news on a start date? Should be happening soon, I will keep my fingers crossed for you.
