It probably makes sense to add a pegola if moving into an existing home, but if building new, nothing beats the integrated design of what the builder will provide for you in the end. I extended my roofline only by about 2.25m + 450mm eves and the concrete beneath by about 3.25m (wanted some shade but also some sun to come in) and althought it's early days in the build, I think the pegola route would not have been as satisfying - might be a tad cheaper, but probably false economy... and do you really want more tradesmen in after handover?
