Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 06, 2010 4:00 pm I put this in a different forum, but I may get more of a response here:
We recently had 30sqm of "brushed grey concrete" poured down the side of our house. Upon further inspection a few days after it had dried, it has "spots" all over it. Like maybe started raining slightly after it was poured. It looks a little unsightly from a cosmetic point of view. Also, there are about 2 small chunks that have come up from the concrete. Not big chunks, about 3 cm diamater crator left in the concrete. Also when looking from one end to the other of the concrete, it doesn't look flat and smooth, but rather every so slightly raised, then not so raised. Do you think this sounds like quality in your opinion and should we complain before handing over payment? Re: Brushed Concrete - is this quality??? Pics attached. 3Oct 06, 2010 7:23 pm Here's some pics. Am I being too picky in the finish/quality?
Any concreting experts able to give advice? We need to pay these people alot of money (over $10k) for all our concreting so I want to know if this is a quality finish for money. Re: Brushed Concrete - is this quality??? Pics attached. 4Oct 06, 2010 7:33 pm I think you should address it with your builder/contractor before you make the payment, from the pics it's unacceptable. Wet the area and check for any pooling, does it fall away from the house? Re: Brushed Concrete - is this quality??? In some spots it is lighter than others, is this normal? Re: Brushed Concrete - is this quality??? Hi there, with the spots over the concrete, it is normal because as the concrete sets... the water rises from the concrete. The two small chunks i cant explain. Where the concrete raises and falls... this is to disperse the water away from the house and to prevent pooling. Plain concrete is indeed unsightly, after a short while, it also starts to go green with moss/ dew, algae. Your best bet is to go to a hardware store and buy some concrete sealer. It comes in many colors and is also a good way to liven up plain concrete. Hope this helps you If you want a job done properly... Do it yourself! Re: Brushed Concrete - is this quality??? I agree about the unsightliness of plain grey concrete, but we only used it down the "dead" side of the house where the clothes line is so no one will be accessing it except us and we used exposed agg on driveway and pathways near our outdoor entertaining area. I have asked the concretor to come back and look at the works before we make payment.
