Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 28, 2010 12:50 pm Hi All, I'm very new to all of this so please be patient with me! My partner & I are building a new house with Celebration Homes. We have just signed up & received our pre-start file, i think we are now getting the final drawings done. We have never built before so i don't even know if this is what we are waiting for?! Would love any hints & tips anyone may have when building a new home as i feel like im running blind! My biggest stress at the moment... external colours!!! i have no idea what we should go with?! We have 2 colour themes that we love but it's just deciding which one will work best & i guess the one that won't date the fastest! Does anyone know any good websites that have visulization tools that we can see it put together? It's so hard going from a sample! Any tips that anyone has would be greatly appreciated Thanks Emjade! I don't think anyone on here has built with celebrations, maybe search for that word and you might find someone. With the colours, we had the same problem with choosing our roof, I tried a few of the online colour tools, but I never really found it helpful. There is one on the colourbond site.... We ended up walking through a new estate and just looking at what everyone else has done - we certainly found out what we don't like!! I know what you mean about trying to get something that won't go out of style, we ended up choosing a federation look, which may be a little 'safe' but I know it will stand the test of time. We couldn't decided on a colour for our render so we ended up upgrading to a brick that we like instead, in order to save our marriage. Which house are you building with celebrations? Celebration homes are part of ABN Group (Homebuyers, Dale Alcock, APG & WBN) so they seem to have a pretty good reputation. I did alot of research with building companies & for the money we wanted to spend (it's our first home) Celebration Homes had nice finishes & alot of the other builders we would have had to do alot of upgrades. Our block is a 12m frontage so we have to go with a cottage design. We chose 'The Haven' design from celebration but did alot of variations to it so it doesn't resemble it to much now. If i can work out how to upload pictures i will try & upload the floor plan. We spend all yesterday driving around the new estates looking at colours & like you said we def know what we don't like! We are thinking Seaspray colourbond roof with cream rendered walls but i just don't know if that's going to look to wishy washy & not have enough contrast? It's all so hard haha im going to be having nightmares about colour schemes! There are a few tools which might be a bit of help to virtualise how ur dream home will be. check the following links: http://www.studiom.com.au/home For colors, try downloading this RGB tool from Taubmans http://www.taubmans.com.au/public/profe ... rator.aspx For everything else, there's google Happy designing. Re: Building our first home 10Sep 28, 2010 5:24 pm Welcome to homeone Your plan is very nice are you keeping with the facade that they have on the web? Re: Building our first home 11Sep 28, 2010 5:59 pm Oh good - I thought they were part of the DAH group, thought it would either be them or BGC. I am in the same boat with colour contrast, I was thinking a dark roof but the builder said it can make the house hotter, so I went back to white. I lose sleep to colour schemes, so I have to write down what I am thinking next to my bed otherwise I would never sleep. I love white - but scared it will look like a doctors surgery, so we have decided to have an lightblue glass splashback to add a bit of 'excitement'... we are finally signing tomorrow so it will be fun to compare - I don't know anyone else on this forum at the same building stage as us. Hi Jessie! No we arn't keeping with the facade on the website... we also changed that around & added a portico & eaves! it finished it off i think the ones on the website don't look very appealing from the outside. We got the floor plan to how we loved but completly forgot about the elevation... the most important part haha! Now we love the whole plan... inside & out! We have almost decided that we are going with redcliffe midland bricks and surfmist roof. we are unable to decide tile, benchtop, cabinet colours etc Re: Building our first home 17Sep 29, 2010 10:09 am emjade Hi Sheznay, thought i replied to you earlier but it doesn't look like it posted.... apologies if it did & it's a double up! Who are you building with? have you had any major troubles so far? i read everywhere that people have problems... i hope ours runs smoothly! we are building with Lifestyle homes. We actually went to sign with another builder about this time last year, but we found everytime we wanted to changes, additions it would take a couple of weeks, we started to lose faith with that builder and told them we wouldn't be building anymore. We had a 2nd baby and sort of forgot about it until june this year when we went looking for builders again. Because we are demolishing and building we wanted to exhaust the 'extension' option first. And yes, building was half the price. So here we are, our sales rep is coming tonight with contracts, we want a feb slab. I am very excited for tonight. We are currently in 140sqmt 3x1 house..... the new one is close to 300sqmt. There is a lifestyle house that has just been built around the corner from us & it looks great! Colours = neutral neutral neutral!!! i don't think you can go to wrong with that & then can bring out colours in furniture & accessories! i know that sounds a bit boring but im going to go safe with my colours, that way in 10 years i wont be like "what was i thinking" haha! Im loving wooden floors but i just realised how expensive they are does anyone know if bamboo floors are cheaper & just an nice or if there is another alternative? Building 'The Haven' with Celebration Homes in Perth's northen suburbs Building contract signed: September 10 Land Settlement: September 10 Re: Building our first home 20Sep 29, 2010 11:22 am emjade- We were going to have timber floors but found it was too expensive (where we live anyway) Instead we have decided on Karndean Vinyl Planks. Not quite the same but the best option for us with 4 young kids amd also to fit in with our budget. The appealing for us is that we don't need to worry about water getting on them and damaging them like some of the other wooden types of flooring- they are durable and warm under the foot. I'm not sure whether something like this might appeal to you Cheers! Thanks NativeZen! I can't wait to start landscaping, though it's going to be a while away yet. No movement on site yet as of the weekend. Hoping to see some earthworks… 3 2148 Can anyone give me any onfo on New Homes WA?
