Building with Clarendon

Hi guys,

I've been reading the forum for several weeks now and following blogs, so i've finally managed to sign up to post my 2 cents worth.

We're building a Clarendon Watervale in Peakhurst, Sydney, so Cookiemonster, we've found your posts useful as you've been going through the same process a few days ahead of us

That said, we haven't submitted plans to council yet as we've got stuck choosing our bricks. We did think about going with the PGH Greenway Splits (like the Clarendon Springwood at Glenwood) but now I'm thinking they're too dark and a bit dated.

Probably go for a smoothface, the Boral Escura Smoothface bricks look good in choc tan or brown. Anyone built with either of these bricks?

Anyway, just wanted to get my first post on the forum.. will come back with my 1001 questions shortly.

I grew up in Lugarno and now live in Riverwood - nice area

I'd keep an eye on Hurstville Council - never trust posting anything to them - always take it there in person!

Hey bob - no - we will be building at Stonecutters Ridge - a new golf/residential development out near Schofields (blacktown way)

We'll miss the area - but we couldn't find anything that we liked nearby.

Ahh Oatley.. we really wanted to buy in Oatley, but couldn't find an affordable piece of land or place to do a knockdown/rebuild. Will definately be useful to keep in touch and see how each others progressing... do i feel a Clarendon vs Clarendon poll coming on?

Bob, we are building the Balmain, which I think may be similar to yours - the Balmain is a slightly 'reworked' version of the Waterford. It's a 5 bedroom house.

did you take the offer of extras for $2999 ? I have signed up for this but now considerining if they are worth it ..
such as Ducted Vaccum, Security, Levers Handles on doors, Caesar stone benchtop + spalash back..

would appreciate any input !

Hi Lobo... we got in before that offer came out so can't comment I'm afraid. sounds like a good offer though... caeserstone can be expensive on it's own.

I think its a pretty good deal if you were considering including these anyway, however you will find that the major builders do the rounds with the deals and I would hope it doesnt ultimately influence your decision to go with a specific builder.

Ducted vacuum runs from $1500-2000 depening on the house.
The caesarstone would be approx $3000-4000 again depending on the kitchen. Lever handled doors are only approx. $250 for whole house and security around $750. This is based on a Clarendon quotes from a few months ago.

Don't be afraid to try and have then put more inclusions in for free and aim for things that you would have upgraded anyway, for instance Doors, tapware etc.

Thanks for the advise, I also forgot to add when they inlcuded that offer for $2999 they did charge extra for insulation (roof and walls), extra for gas connection and extra for gas how water !!!!
I think as the sales lady told me in the end the builders play with figured to make it look attractive!!!
I am waiting for my plans to get ready and submitted to council

We missed out on that promotion as our tender was done in June - it does sound like a good deal to me though. We have upgraded to a caesarstone splashback and that is costing around the $3,000 mark just on it's own.
