Re: Our Build with L*festyle - ROOF! 284Jun 06, 2011 10:34 pm Thanks all! I am really starting to get an idea of what 'feel' I want the house is exude - (Can you tell I have been watching FAR too much Grand Designs? ) Someone was there today sweeping out the excess water that had settled in the bathrooms Very keen for a public holiday. I can now properly walk around the house without screaming 'no no no, we don't splash in the puddles, it's not puddle time girls!" More Photos! All three of our tv rooms (theatre, games, family) had this installed so our TV could be wire free... won't be much help if the wall falls down though? I think after riding the flooring merry go round, I might have made a decision ....maybe We are just going to bite the bullet and get timber floorboards laid, the end decision is that I can sand and polish them over the years, as I anticipate we will be in this house for 10-15 yrs. Fingers crossed. I would have to say that Summit's Luxxe interior has been my inspiration for most of my decor choice, seen here Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Except my kitchen splash back is more of a coffee colour. If I remember correctly, that is brushbox timber - Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ So that is choice number 1 I have seen some beautiful marri floors, the main reason why I like this, is because of the tone-ing Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The finish on marri really depends on which gloss finish I choose, personally I don't think any photos I have found do this timber justice And finally there is Blackbutt, this is a more even tone, and much lighter - so the sand/dirt doesn't show, but in my opinion it has less character because of the even tone Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ What do you all think? I have done the research and the timber is 'spotted gum' and it was installed by BJ's Floorign in Osborne Park. They quoted me $175 psqm i like the last photo you posted too, very nice. Re: Sheznay's Build w Life$tyle - HELP WITH FLOORING! 289Jun 09, 2011 1:21 pm Hey Wrex I have a friend of a friend who is going into his own flooring business he is quoting for most timbers around the $100 mark. He quotes separately for polish/laying+cost of timber. He doesn't have a showroom so maybe that's why he is cheaper? Who knows. That said I have now heard of a few young guys just like him, who are offering this service. P.S. Thanks for throwing ANOTHER choice into the mix - spotted gum hey?? Well obviously as I am building one and if I had my way that flooring in the display is spectacular and looks slightly different and has some character I think compared to some others Tough decision Sheznay......tough Re: Sheznay's Build w Life$tyle - HELP WITH FLOORING! 291Jun 09, 2011 3:22 pm I have marri and couldn't be happier. We have 3 small boys who trapes through the house covered in sand from the sandpit and it hides dirt and sand well and also scratches aren't so noticeable. We were originally going to go blackbutt, but the variations in the marri sold us. You can get different grades so some have more variation than others. Ours was the standard grade and full of knots and grains, but the higher grade, which was more expensive was more even. The other one we looked at was spotted gum, which I may have gone with if we had of done the white kitchen, but I wasn't sure how it would go with the colour we ended up with. Building with Life$tyle Homes in Perth SOR Key Dates on First Page of my Thread viewtopic.php?f=31&t=38761 Re: Sheznay's Build w Life$tyle - HELP WITH FLOORING! 297Jun 10, 2011 8:05 pm Crazy week this week - have only been to the house twice, After looking at vinyl planks, ceramic tiles, porcelain tiles, timber floors, engineerd timber floors, back to tiles, back to engineered timber. I can pictured the main room with a large earthy beige/cream styled tile. I can also picture it timber - but I can't picture what furniture I will get to match the feel of the timber...... I will also have to rethink my cabinetry which is all marri - So I have put it in the 'too hard basket' to come back to later. Maybe after tax when the bank account looks better and I want faint at the costs. The render/grey set is still going on. We only have 1 guy doing this so he will be there until the 27/6. ceilings will commence that day and go until 5/7. Lockup will be 8/7. Cabinetry will all be installed on the 11/7 If all that goes to plan, our tiler will be there on the 15/7. Can't really imagine it at that point Exciting though! My VERY understanding neighbour has done all he can to make sure the large tree at the corner of the property (which shades one of the bedrooms from the western sun. In the end the fencing guy has basically made the retaining wall to go around the tree. I think It will add a feature to the garden, I just need to back fill. Stop rambling Shez and put some pics up - They are shocking phone ones again, sorry!
