Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Building in Shell Cove 41Dec 18, 2011 9:28 pm Hi All Krissy - Yes ours has a frame up. We had our bricks delivered this week so they are going to start to lay the bricks this coming week. We went to visit the block today and were able to stand on the first floor and look over the golf course. Very exciting seeing the house go up. We have had the plumbing completed and the sliding doors and windows except one have been put in. I think you will be very busy with the new baby and we will be going down weekly so don't worry about taking pics as I am sure you have enough to keep you occupied. I have a blog so if you want to follow it send me a personal message as I have to send you an invite. There is quite a bit of building going on in Shell Cove which is good. Our builder just before Christmas sent us a letter to say they were coming back on 16th January instead of taking the 5 weeks builders shutdown. So we were even more surprised when our new neighbour who was visiting her block told us the bricklayers were at our block on 9th January. We went down to visit our house on Friday to find the bricks nearly finished. The bricklayer told us we should see them finished by beginning of this week. So hopefully they are finished and we will be going to look again at the end of this week. We will be having a roof put on next week subject to the weather. Being an hours drive away we cannot pop to our house every day so I have to wait for a week each time to see the progress. We got our DA approved yesterday so just waiting on the last of the paperwork to be done and then 20 days to order materials. Are you guys using a private building inspector? Would love a recommendation if you are, it's something we think we will get but not sure of anyone local Re: Building in Shell Cove 44Jan 27, 2012 7:23 am Hi girls ,can any of you tell me if you had problems with external colours ,shellcove architects won't let us have monument fascia guttering ,and we know for a fact other people in the area who have just built have it as a roof and the rest ???? Can any of you send me a private message if you used that or something similar Thanx girls ,stress lines wearing thin now ha Re: Building in Shell Cove 45Jan 28, 2012 7:58 pm bkent Hi girls ,can any of you tell me if you had problems with external colours ,shellcove architects won't let us have monument fascia guttering ,and we know for a fact other people in the area who have just built have it as a roof and the rest ???? Can any of you send me a private message if you used that or something similar Thanx girls ,stress lines wearing thin now ha Hi bkent, I am very suprised they are having an issue with using 'monument' we are having 'Deep ocean' colorbond whitch is dark blue. They didnt have an issue with it and we expected they would! It may not fit into the 'look' for your particular part of shell cove. Which really sucks! check the DCP (development control plan) or I wonder if there are too many houses being built using that colour and they want to change it up (but that does sound ridiculous) I hope this is sorted quickly for you and you can use the colour you wish! Ally Re: Building in Shell Cove 47Feb 28, 2012 7:26 pm How'd you go with the colours? Ally - I've been following your blog (hope you don't mind!) Hope the rain hasn't slowed things up too much. We've turned dirt which is exciting! Today when I drove past we have our fence up. Bit worried about all this rain forecast though. Can't wait to move in. I love whenever I drive past there's kids playing in the streets, walking to school and riding their bikes - such s a young family area. My 4 year old wanted to play with some kids the other day in the dead end of our street! Re: Building in Shell Cove 48Mar 03, 2014 12:11 pm Hi everyone, I know your tread was a while back now, but I'm hoping a few of you might still be around and able to help us? We made a trip to Shell Cove over the school holiday period and really loved the area. We are currently living in the Shire and are now looking to move to Shell Cove, but would love to get some advice from those who have moved and built there. If anyone could share there experiences we would be really grateful * Does anyone commute from Shell Cove to Sydney? if so how train or car or bit of both? and how do you find it? * Shell Cove looks lovely, but what is it actually like to live there? what's great about it? Any downsides? * How have you found the building process in Shell Cove? Does anyone have any glowing references (or definite no no's) for choice of builders? Mainstream builders or better to go with a custom builder?
