What happens to the paperwork once they are handed into council?...We were supposed to go thru a certifier, then after submitting the paperwork were told oops! we made a mistake & have to go through council...just lost 8 weeks in the process....so just want to know what does the council do exactly other than look at the plans? It`s called REDTAPE! These days your plans have to meet your suburb/developers(who are in bed with the council to begin with) design rules, once you modify things YOU WANTED to suit THEIR IDEA of what YOUR HOUSE and LANDSCAPING, SHOULD look like. You then have to send them off to the council who put them up on public notice for 3 WEEKS before checking them, after the notification period they then finally check them only to find something isn`t to THEIR liking after which they do not approve your plans and send them back telling you what needs to be changed. Then you have to send them back again to be checked after you have rectified what they pointed out to you(at least they don`t put them back on notification). They then finally approve them and send them back to you/builder stamped approved! Wasting your valuable time in the process. Why don`t they do what a normal peoples processing would be like and check them first,if they comply then put the plans on public notification,it`s very simple! Where abouts are you? Our developer used to meet monthly, then by the time our builder submitted our plans etc they met fortnightly, so we didn't have too long a wait. Just stay on top of your builder, and make sure you're in the loop. Our builder didn't even tell us we had developers approval... we had to chase them If you have certain covenants to meet or design guidelines, as long as you've stayed within those, then the turn around time should be less. Re: why DAs take a long time to go through Council? 4Jul 21, 2011 1:37 pm We rang them often to ask if there was anything they needed from us and it still took 5 months...botany bay council is stuck in the ice ages, just keep communication open so you know exactly what stage it is in, our plans were supposed to be lodged for 1 meeting so I rang them a few days after said meeting and the guy working on the folder was on holidays for 3 weeks and the file was sitting on his desk grrrrr oh well atleast its finally through...*sigh* *Bought the Block of Land with a Delapitated Weatherboard Shack in July 2010 *No Straight answer from Council until June 2011 *Sign Tender with Lily Homes July 2011 *Demolish End of July 2011 Re: why DAs take a long time to go through Council? 6Jul 21, 2011 1:59 pm Great idea! they changed the rules in Feb this year for small blocks, we were so tempted to pull it out of council and do the new 10 day approval!
