That's what happened to us... they did the slab, and the next day it rained for several days!
Don't worry.. we'll all be happy next week :wink:

Some will have a slab (yours, Phoenix and DeeElle),
some will have some brickworks (clath),
ours will have some framing done...
who else :?:

? hmmm... might have to prepare a list of people building within the year so I can remember and check their progress regularly :lol:

We have had some movement - visited the block last Thursday to find all the foam for the slab delivered (good sign I am told)

Then today hubby got a phone call from SS to say boxing etc is done and the slab will be poured on Wednesday (rain due tomorrow).

WHOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

Not only that but the Frame due to be delivered on Monday.

All going well we will be lots closer with things on track for us to move into a rental this weekend.

Then the daily or maybe even twice daily visits commence (at what point does it become stalking? :shock:

Should I suggest patience like you to me????

ring the big M and ask when the hell they will be back on site (in the nicest possible way of course :lol:

Phoenix's suggestion should work nicely.

Yes, I actually have a list now in Excel... hehe.
I'm so forgetful, need to take note of other people's progress, builder and location.
Don't know if it's worth it to put the list here that others can update, so we know who's currently building, the builder, the stage, etc.

Went for a drive yesterday after being told the boxing was done on Monday - low and behold it was. We even got to meet the neighbours on the one side. It was rented but now the owners are living there, so nice to finally meet them.
Was told to expect slab today?

Just spoke to site super - They are pouring it as I type. WHoooohooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

We are moving to our rental this weekend (first time I have ever had to rent) so we will be less than 10 mins drive away.

Funny thing is our rental is a brand new house - we will get to christen it then look forward to doing the same to our very own.

Hi everyone

No I didn't disappear off the face of homeone! :lol:

Since my last post we have moved house to a rental close to where we are building, our elder little boy started prep and the younger one started kindy. We have also been off air after trying for nearly 2 weeks to have bigpond connected.

It is still raining on and off here in QLD :roll:

but we have had some progress on our place. Frame was delivered on Jan 25th.

Yep the roof trusses were delivered across the road

The Tuesday after the Aussie Day weekend Bribie had the most rain of anywhere in Qld over 100mm. We had to wait it out at the school as it absolutely poured at pick up time on the first day. I can't remember when we last saw rain like it.

Work started about 1pm on Wed 30th and by the end of the day they had got this far. Not bad for a few hours

And that is a far as they have got - No work completed on Friday even though it was fine then rain till about 8am both Monday and yesterday and a beautiful day today but storms predicted later. No action today but have had windows delivered that are now sitting in the dirt. Spoke to SS this morning and he was going to see if he could get some work done today as he didn't realise it was fine up here :roll:

I have started making my twice daily visits (one after school drop off then again after school pick up.)

Talking about rain but on another point we received our first extension of time notice on Jan 29th. for the dates 11/12-21/12 In our contract we have an allowance of 10 days well the Big M wanted to claim 9 days straight up. Well we have taken issue with this for a couple of reasons:

1. Our contract states that we must receive this notice within 20 working days - this did not happen.

2. Our block was not affected by weather or the effects of weather on all the said days. In fact the big M were not ready to commence work on a number of these days.

3. Work did take place during this time - plumbing installed and electrical meter box installed, footings dug and poured

4. SS advised that the concreter had been held up at another site due to rain at the other site the previous week and we would need to wait until after the Xmas break .

No doubt there will be rain delays to claim for January but I think the December ones aren't really fair.

We have put our concerns in writing to the construction manager and are awaiting to hear a response

Has anyone else has this type of problem?

I think I will be busy catching up on everyone's posts over the coming days

Missed you, but knew you had a few things on your plate.....
Hope all is well with the rental?

Stick to your guns with the builder.... they will know to be more careful when trying to claim wet days in future....

Hope they are back on track soon.... Hey and yes you can send the weather back as soon as we are at lock-up.... :wink:

Because then there is no excuse - the tradies will be nice and dry inside the house working....LOL

check your slab for any overhanging timber.
we have that issue (and we have the same builder) at the moment and still awaiting an explanation on how they are going to fix it.
hope you don't encounter that issue.

We have had some movement at the house with work yesterday and today.
Even though we had fine weather after 8am both Monday & Tuesday and a beautiful day on Wednesday. Below are the photos I took at 9am. The last one is the view from the other side of the canal sitting in the car. Hoping to see lots more roof after school pick up this afternoon.

We are yet to get a resolution on the first claim for wet days. The construction manager told us to send our concerns to him telling hubby he would look into it. After not hearing from him I rang and was told by the construction manager that we needed to send it through head office s so they could send it to him. He now will not return my hubby's phone calls. I am not keen to let this one go and there will no doubt be more days to claim for Jan.

Phoenix - we have had a number of issue with the rental being a brand new house. Our realesstate in useless and the builder does not seem to be in any hurry. Come to think of it I might just ring them now!

At least your rental is closer to the new place....that's one good thing.

Your house is looking great. Our house will hopefully start around April/May so I'm hoping the weather settles down by then, we already are behind 8 weeks because of projects already started being behind because of all the rain here in Queensland.

My block of dirt has lots of 'beautiful' weeds on it now!!

Thanks Jet, Yep we seem to be growing lots of lush weeds on the block.

Progress has been slow mostly due to the slow coach carpenters we have. :cry:

If they would pull their fingers out :roll:

We have spoken to the ss and he expected them to be finished last week. :evil:

The guttering was booked for today and the roof tiles for tomorrow but the roof trusses still aren't finished. They are finally back on site today. Pictures are from 9am this morning. Guttering, facia and roof tiles have all been delivered. We have a meeting with ss at 7am on Monday morning to see what the plan of attack is. I would hope we would have a roof sometime next week :roll:

We have noticed a few issues with the slab/framing but the ss says he inspects when they are finished the frame and gets things fixed then has an inspection with us.

Were they slow due to the weather too?

Our frame stage is quite fast for a double storey (i believe), but due to some issues with the high doors/bulkhead and slab, there were some days when they didn't work.

weather has not been a huge issue, rather there lack of motivation. ss is not impressed with them from what we can tell. To give you an idea this is what my diary looks like since frame was delivered:
25/1 - Frame & Trusses Delivered
26/1 - weekend
27/1 - weekend
28/1 - public holiday
29/1 - rain - lots
30/1 - work on site from 1pm
31/1 - full day of work on site
1/2 - no rain but no work done
2/2 - weekend
3/2 - weekend
4/2 - morning shower before 7am then fine - no work
5/2 - morning drizle to 8am then fine - no work
6/2 - no rain no work (windows delivered)
7/2 - full day of work on site
8/2 - 3 hrs on site in morning - guttering & facia delivered
9/2 - weekend
10/2 - weekend
11/2 - couple of hours work on site no rain - roof tiles delivered
12/2 - heavy showers through out the day - no work
13/2 - beautiful day - no work onsite
14/2 - cloudy odd sprinkle - builders on site at 9am

according to ss the roof trusses should take 1.5days and they started this on Feb 7th. So hopefully it may be finished when I go to pick up the biys in an hour or so. I won't be holding my breath though.

VJ - we have a retired neighbour who spend most of his time sitting in his alfresco. Really good now not sure how it will go once we move in.

Damo - a little bit of progress this afternoon so they maybe finished tomorrow, however it has just started raining here.

I have been avoiding posting our colour selection but have done so in another thread so I might as well add them to my own thread.
