Browse Forums Building A New House Re: First time builder with DAH - Hopefully this is the end 161Jun 26, 2012 4:54 pm The best one we had during the process was "You get that" when it was pointed out to the guy doing the built-ins that he managed to stick the corner of his ladder into a wall and removed a big chunk of plaster. Lack of care or lack of basic common sense or both? Re: First time builder with DAH - Hopefully this is the end 162Jun 26, 2012 6:24 pm good one - DH had the "women are too fussy" thrown at him at the repair stage when he mentioned that some of the plaster is a bit lumpy and wifey would not like it... that guy had to come back for a meeting with his Building Manager to explain the crap work and I had the opportunity to explain in very polite terms how "fussy" we women can get... that meeting was on a Saturday morning early at 8am - an absolute In the end we decided to wait for another year, let the house settle, and then get somebody private to do a proper fix - can't be bothered with the inconvenience and time off work only to get the same result. The house takes 2 years to settle so the cracking will come back after they fix it at 6 month maintenance... They offered to come again and fix the cracked cornices and ceilings and the result was worse then the first fix... so be prepared Preliminary agreement 23/11 Contract 22/03 Prestart 06/04 - finalised on 30/04 Unconditional approval 10/05 Demolition 05/07 Slab 26/08 Brickwork 13/09-06/10 Roof frame started 07/10 viewtopic.php?f=31&t=32292 Re: First time builder with DAH - Hopefully this is the end 163Jun 26, 2012 6:54 pm Wouldn't reccomend any tradesman try that line on at our place - there would be a need for an ambulance. Seriously though - you hand over 100's of 1000's of $ - there should be more respect. Re: First time builder with DAH - Hopefully this is the end 164Jun 26, 2012 7:03 pm hehehehe - at our age we kind of learned to "never argue with an idiot - coz they bring you down at their level and beat you with experience" not worth the effort. There are other ways to make them see the "light" hehehehe Preliminary agreement 23/11 Contract 22/03 Prestart 06/04 - finalised on 30/04 Unconditional approval 10/05 Demolition 05/07 Slab 26/08 Brickwork 13/09-06/10 Roof frame started 07/10 viewtopic.php?f=31&t=32292 Re: First time builder with DAH - Hopefully this is the end 165Jun 27, 2012 9:21 pm 2 days into the job and already 1 day behind on their schedule. Would probably help if they sent more than one tradie or if that tradie actually worked a full day rather than knocking off at lunchtime. The mind boggles at the lack of thought they continue to exhibit. Re: First time builder with DAH - Hopefully this is the end 166Jun 27, 2012 10:02 pm i hope they didn't try to blame the rain??!!! How many things do they need to fix??? Re: First time builder with DAH - Hopefully this is the end 167Jun 27, 2012 10:10 pm They need to sand all their wall, ceiling, cornice repairs and then repaint about half the house. At least three days work left and they were supposed to be finished Friday - I guess it might be next Friday - should be able to claim come compo for inconvenience and having to clean up after them Re: First time builder with DAH - Hopefully this is the end 168Jun 27, 2012 11:06 pm oh dear! you got a crappy lot!!! I am amazed we haven't had any cracking yet. we have development happening right next door with the road being compacted. NOTHING! Hopefully we got the good lot of tradies doing our build! We have a few things to be fixed still, but nothing urgent, nothing we can't live with. We have also noticed our laminate has a bubble in it...have put it down on the 6 month schedule already. that is our first one!!! hopefully not too many to go on! Hope they finish by friday, you never know! Re: First time builder with DAH - Hopefully this is the end 169Jun 28, 2012 12:23 pm We didn't have a lot of cracking, just one reasonable sized one in the en-suite so I'm happy that the house is structurally sound. Most of the repairs are to do with the very poor finish. The service guys did at least acknowledge that it wasn't up to the required standard. Could have carried on and done it all myself but after doing one room I was a bit empty on ethusiasm. Re: First time builder with DAH - Hopefully this is the end 170Jun 28, 2012 12:36 pm We did it ourselves - although after going around the house 4 times we were exhausted. Dents, scratches, runs, splatter, etc.... depending on the time of the day and the way the lights comes though the house we can still see some of them but I just ignore them now Preliminary agreement 23/11 Contract 22/03 Prestart 06/04 - finalised on 30/04 Unconditional approval 10/05 Demolition 05/07 Slab 26/08 Brickwork 13/09-06/10 Roof frame started 07/10 viewtopic.php?f=31&t=32292 Re: First time builder with DAH - Hopefully this is the end 171Jun 28, 2012 12:51 pm Agree .. it's best not to look too closely I was playing with some LED lights at the back of the lounge in the home theatre the other day and couldn't believe how rough the plastering was at the mid point of the wall - I quickly move the lights!! For info on our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43093 Built the McLaren by Dechellis - slab down 22 Feb - handover 30 Aug 2011 - and gardens finished 9 Dec 2012!! Re: First time builder with DAH - Hopefully this is the end 172Jun 28, 2012 2:55 pm Unfortunately for us if we left the front door open the afternoon sun made the entrance and living/dining rooms look like they were made of corrugated iro there were that many ripples in them. Hopefully now we're not having to close the door and miss out on the afternnon breeze when it's warm outside. Re: First time builder with DAH - Hopefully this is the end 173Jun 29, 2012 12:06 pm All done and looks a good job - service department at DAH did a good job in the end with some good attention by their management. They could probably teach the construction guys a thing or two. Minimum overhang into gutter must be 50mm, turn down tool should not split the sheet. it seems wrong tool for the profile was used, the flashing cannot slope back. Rib… 2 2075 Electrical just got back to me and said the most they can provide is a single power point on the Bedroom 1 side of that wall. After handover, your towel rail installer… 2 3798 Can anyone give me any onfo on New Homes WA? Good or bad, hopefully good just need to know if my choice was good or not? Thanks ❤️ 0 8846 |
