Re: First time builder with DAH - Keyed 145Mar 04, 2012 7:09 pm Commencing the great repaint this week. Sort out all the second grade plaster work first and then repaint major living areas from scratch. Will leave the bedrooms to later as they're a bit darker and it's not so obvious that DAH used a two year old to do the painting. First time builder with DAH - Keyed 146Mar 04, 2012 9:34 pm Bugger! Do they not fix it? Or do you not trust them to come back?! Thank goodness we didn't get them to paint...just the ceilings, cornices, frames and render...hopefully they do a good job of that! ![]() Re: First time builder with DAH - Keyed 148Mar 05, 2012 9:10 am Not a chance I'd ask them to fix it. A good proportion of the poor job we ended up with is their attempt to repair what our independent inspector picked up. Got a couple of weeks off so no real big deal but didn't figure I'd be doing it 2 months after moving in. Just couldn't look at the lumps and bumps and patchy paint any more. Good choice on not getting them to paint your internal walls, they start with rubbish paint (Solver) and then make it worse by using the trade blend which is basically coloured water. Re: First time builder with DAH - Keyed 149Mar 05, 2012 10:24 am Hi Althom - I'm sorry to hear about your walls/painting. I've been telling everybody on H1 building with DAH to check the finish of the white plaster as we had the same problem. Our whiteplaster had runs, splater, dents, scratches, spider cracks - but we couldn't see it as the day light is tricky (depends on what time of the day you inspect the house) and we didn't have lights installed before the handover. If we knew we would've bought a floodlight from Bunning and had DAH come and fix the plaster.... but considering their track records on the way they do fixes I don't think it would've made any difference... maybe added a few more dents and scratches ![]() BTW about the Solver paint - I did use it and it depends what type they use. Solver has a range of finishes but the tradies favour the flat one to cover all the sins... He obviously left his seeing eye dog in the car as apparently he couldn't see anything wrong and then started checking items not even installed by DAH and telling us how good they were. Now they want yet another meeting, I really don't know if I can be bothered. Might just send in the list for 6 month maintenance and see how they perform on that - not that, given other feedback on this site, I have much hope of them actually doing anything or at least doing anything properly. Re: First time builder with DAH - Keyed 151Apr 27, 2012 11:45 pm I have my fingers firmly crossed for you, Althom, however, I won't be holding my breath for fear of turning blue ![]() I hope it all goes well ![]() Oceanic with Nautilus upgrades. Handover 8 September 2010 Re: First time builder with DAH - Keyed 152Apr 28, 2012 9:44 pm I hope you told them the good things were from outsourced labourers! I hope your meeting goes well...your next one! Quick question...what is wrong with solver paints? We have used them in the past and always like them! Most tradies use and recommend them. We have been really happy with the way they clean up, lack of smell, easy application...Wattyl on the other hand...AARGH! We normally go Dulux colours and solver paint. Dulux been good, but can't beat the lack of smell that Solver has (and as an asthmatic, it is the one that affects me the least!). Loved Nippon paint, but they discontinued it, I think it was too expensive and people didn't want to pay the money, but that was the BEST paint we have worked with! ![]() I just hope our plaster work is good. It looks good, just looks like it needs a little sanding...but i am worried! Re: First time builder with DAH - Keyed 153Apr 29, 2012 10:28 am Main issues I have with Solver paint; Builders use trade blend which is effectively coloured water Get two cans of the same colour from the same Solver shop blended by the same person and check the difference in colour. Seems to be a problem with their bases. Washability = zero Re: First time builder with DAH - Keyed 154Apr 29, 2012 7:54 pm ![]() Main issues I have with Solver paint; Builders use trade blend which is effectively coloured water Get two cans of the same colour from the same Solver shop blended by the same person and check the difference in colour. Seems to be a problem with their bases. Washability = zero Thank you for that! Interesting that they have a different blend for tradies! Very glad we are going to paint ourselves! We know if it is a bad job we can only blame ourselves! I so hope we don't get different colour lots! AAARG! Fine for each bedroom, but not for the main area! Washability...interesting we have never had problems with washing it! Never fades! Whatever our rental people used...AARGH! It is awful! especially the dark feature walls, you can see where I wipe down marks...needs a repaint already and it is only 14 months old!!! Still can't understand though why an alleged professional doesn't understand enough to use dropsheets and masking tape.
