Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 06, 2010 11:38 am Hi all I'm currently looking for a home to suit a 14m block and like a lot of the Porter Davis lifestyle range. Has anyone built one of these on a 14m block? Its very hard to look at the larger versions of the houses and imagine what they would look like much more narrow than as displayed - I'd love to know of people that have built any of these. Thanks in advance Re: Who has built a Porter Davis Lifestyle home for 14m bloc 2Sep 06, 2010 12:04 pm Hey Audrey I have recently built the Heywood 25 from Porter Davis on a block of land that was 14m x 35m and I definitely do not regret my choice so far. Anyways, if you need more specific information let me know. Re: Who has built a Porter Davis Lifestyle home for 14m bloc 3Sep 06, 2010 12:12 pm Thanks so much! I was actually looking at the Heywood 28 but am worried about how narrow the meals area and side alfrecos would be......and also how the Fridge and Pantry work on the side wall. Re: Who has built a Porter Davis Lifestyle home for 14m bloc 4Sep 06, 2010 12:21 pm The meals area can comfortable fit a dining table and chairs for 8 persons without any problem, the side alfresco I am not sure as I don't have one. But I think if you could modify the walls a bit to increase the fridge and pantry area it will work out beautifully. I think that can be achieve if you sacrifice the area of the wardrobe in the corridor. I unfortunately did not think abt it before... Re: Who has built a Porter Davis Lifestyle home for 14m bloc 5Sep 06, 2010 2:24 pm Hi there. We have a 13.6mt block, and couldn't get any of the PD homes to fit. In the end we decided to go with a house that was designed for a 12.5m block. For us, northern sun was important. The closer you build to your boundaries inhibits your sun angles and can increase shadowing from neighbouring properties. We also worried about building works, landscaping, possible pool, etc etc further down the line.....building on boundaries makes it difficult for machines to access your backyard (unless you've got a drive-thru garage), when you've only 1.8mts (or less) on one side of your home. Good luck!!!! Just my opinion, and food for thought. ;o) Amazing_Venice [size=50]Signed: 31/07/10 Colour Appointment: 08/09/10 Deposit Tender 20 / 09 / 2010 Final Contract Signed 18 / 11 / 2010 Slab laid 02 / 2 / 2011 Frame completed 25 / 02 / 2011 viewtopic.php?f=31&t=37417&p=553032&hilit=oxford#p553032 Re: Who has built a Porter Davis Lifestyle home for 14m bloc 6Sep 06, 2010 4:48 pm Very good food for thought! thanks I really want a house that has an alfresco at the rear of the house......does yours? Most seem to have little alcoves at the side and then bedrooms across the back, then I feel like the yard at the back is wasted! Re: Who has built a Porter Davis Lifestyle home for 14m bloc 7Sep 06, 2010 5:52 pm HI Audrey, Might I interject, have you considered Places ? They are the other other PD chain and generally sit somewhere in between Access and Lifestyle in terms of inclusions etc. They have a couple of plans that suit 12.5m frontages (like our fairhaven 23) and the majority of the designs have rear alfresco's. For example on the first page of our thread (link in my signature below) are our plans, we didn't add an alfresco due to budget considerations, but the standard ones are located off the rear of the family room and there is 3 different lengths to choose from iirc. Hopefully it helps rather than making the decision harder Our Build - Places Fairhaven 23+ - https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=28045 Our Landscaping - Belial's Backyard - https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=45375 Re: Who has built a Porter Davis Lifestyle home for 14m bloc 8Sep 06, 2010 6:03 pm Hi Audrey... Just adding my 2c... My next door neighbour is building the Churchill which fits the 14m x 32m block, the only thing is that they have no backyard at all... just a side yard. Including their alfresco area is probably not wider than 5m at most. The house does look quite cramped though IMO. If our house was big like there's too then they probably wouldn't get any sun! If you want a nice alfresco backyard as opposed to a side yard the you would need to look at a larger block... perhaps 14m x 35m if possible OR Belial's suggestion is a good one too! Re: Who has built a Porter Davis Lifestyle home for 14m bloc 9Sep 06, 2010 6:05 pm Hi Audrey, Thats one of the main reasons we cancelled our PD contract and went with Carlisle. We are at tender stage of the process and can't rave enough about how great their inclusions and customer service is. We're now building something amazing that opens to the rear and fits our block perfectly. Best of luck - it's a huge decision and comparing apples with apples is tricky as some builders don't give you an idea of upgrades until you've committed your heart and wallet!!
