Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 05, 2010 10:40 pm Hi all, I am building Terracedale 25 with Clarendon Homes in Victoria. I am a bit confused on whether I should upgrade my standard garage door. Currently, Clarendon is giving me sectional Colorbond door which I assume is standard for every builder. I am thinking of going for the Timber door. Anyone here building with Clarendon have an idea of upgrade costs??? I have heard that timber doors tend to fade away with time. Should I just stick with standard sectional Colorbond door?? Cheers Re: Selecting garage door 2Sep 06, 2010 2:37 pm Hi there! We're about to build with Clarendon too. I think the current promo has the upgraded door with remotes? yeh? I am not sure of the upgrade cost, but our last build it was about $700 from memory - but that might have included the remotes aswell... not 100% sure. Timber garage doors do look lovely but normal colours can look great too. If you were investing in timber windows also I would prob upgrade, but we're not this time round. The timber look doors are colourbond also, so require no additional maintenance over the standard solid colourbond colours to my knowledge. We upgraded to the timber look (caoba dawn) as we have a lot of timber in our facade, plus a timber front door. Fingers crossed it all ties together! Here a picture of what it should all look like, minus the render, which we might to later on (budget permitting) http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/8836/roeberry.jpg First Home Builders Clarendon Roeberry 29 Arena @ Officer Colours Selected 12/08/10 Tender Signed 26/08/10 Contract Signed 12/10/10 Building Permit Issued 22/12/10 Site Start Due 14/01/11 (fingers crossed!) Re: Selecting garage door 6Sep 06, 2010 4:25 pm Timber doors look lovely intially, however, the maintenance can prove a nightmare. Colorbond on the other hand is virtually maintenance free and has the added advantage of not warping based on the season. Wood, being a natural product does have a tendency to warp, though I understand they are doing wonderful things these days with 'engineered wood'. My take - go colobond and save on any upgrades. Suburbia is where the developer bulldozes out the trees, then names the streets after them. Re: Selecting garage door 7Sep 06, 2010 7:32 pm Hi all, Thanks for the replies. I guess I will be going with Colorbond sectional, not upgrading to Timber. Arena, your facade looks great. Do you have a pic of what Colourbond Timbergrain looks like?? My wife and me going for the color selections on the 16th September. I hope I am not up for surprises. Cheers Re: Selecting garage door 8Sep 06, 2010 7:44 pm Venice, yeah, the current Clarendon promotion ( More,More, More package) provides automatic door opening unit. I just checked caoba dawn. Its a great substitute for the actual Timber doors. I am definitely going for that. Cheers Re: Selecting garage door 9Sep 06, 2010 7:49 pm Hi Raj, Colour selections are great fun, but make sure you have a few ideas in mind before you go in and never accept that what they have on display is all that's on offer colour-wise. We found that that paint and carpet displayed didn't suit what we were after, a little research of suppliers got us what we were after without too much fuss. Our CSC has been more than helpful getting prices for a lot of our non-standard fittings. We've found that no matter how outlandish our request seems it doesn't hurt to ask. Here is the best example I can find of the Caoba Dawn Colourbond... http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/7820/3 ... 142619.jpg First Home Builders Clarendon Roeberry 29 Arena @ Officer Colours Selected 12/08/10 Tender Signed 26/08/10 Contract Signed 12/10/10 Building Permit Issued 22/12/10 Site Start Due 14/01/11 (fingers crossed!) Re: Selecting garage door 10Sep 06, 2010 8:09 pm Hi Arena, Thanks for the pic. I am definitely goin for this one. We kinda know what carpet and colors we are going for. We are planning on the dark brown carpet displayed in Seaton, ceilings are white and walls are maybe off white or cream. We want to give a warm look to our paradise. Our floor tiles are Moomba Pearl - Porcelain. And planning on feature wall in master bed and entrance wall. Hopefully all this blends together well. I have had a great experience with Clarendon so far. Our sales lady is awesome and our admin lady seems equally helpful. I am going tomm at Clarendon studio in Port Melbourne for a tour of their studio to get an idea of what to expect when I go for the actual colors. Cheers Cheers Re: Selecting garage door 11Sep 06, 2010 8:15 pm Best of luck with your selections! We have Moomba Pearl Porcelain tiles for the majority of our place too! I loved them so much they are going around the bath and in the shower of the main bathroom too! Re: Selecting garage door 13Sep 06, 2010 9:37 pm well we had our tender appointment on 26th August, signed off the final amendments last week, maybe 1st Sept. Our CSC has booked us in for the contract signing on 11th October, however, our land hasnt settled yet, so if your titled and ready to go this could be even quicker. We could very well be starting around the same time, I look forward to watching your progress! My land doesn't title till march next year,so I have asked for Tile Selection as late as I could. I am hoping the contract signing is somewhere early next year.
