Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 03, 2010 8:09 am Hi all I decided to post our own topic,,although I may not post as often as I like.......the background.
6m months ago we lost our home to fire due to an electrical fault in my computer, our two story 5 bedroom old weather board was gone in 25 minutes. we managed to save only a few photos and my nans charred 80 year old rings. This home was our forever home, we were about to brick the lower level and do up the inside. we had already built twice before in another area, but had decided to settle with our 5 children in a different area, so bought an existing home. I never imagined we would rebuild again. Jump forward a month, we were in preliminary discussion with another builder, ready to go when the costs began to jump through the roof and made the house unaffordable. Simonds stepped in, and although we had some reservations after reading some things on here, what they were offering was so much better, the plan was better for our now soon to be 6children,,the price had better inclusions, and although the build time was alot longer it looked fantastic.....we pulled out of the other company (losing 1500 dollars in the process)....and signed up...... So here begins our next (and hopefully last) house. We are building a modified stamford design(adding 2 extra bedrooms, a rumpus and other bits and pieces,) It will have 5 bedrooms 3 living areas, and all the things I want and need......one things for sure, after losing everything I want to know that this house will still be the perfect house once our children have partners adn are grown up!@ So contracts were signed 27/05/2010 colour selection done 03/06/2010 Site Start done 28/07/2010 Slab 08/09/2010 Frame completed 13/09/2010 Gutters on 14/09/2010 Roof Begins 15/09/2010 Sisalation Wrap 20/09/2010 Plumbing and Electrical rough in 24/09/2010 Insulation installed 27/09/2010 Plaster Start 29/09/2010 Bricking started 30/09/2010. We are still hopeful of a before christmas handover,,,as our new baby will be here in about 9 weeks!........I will post color selections in a tick Re: Our new Home...rebuild after home was destroyed by fire. 2Sep 03, 2010 8:16 am OMG you have been through a ringer!!!! We cannot wait to start seeing it come together! Re: Our new Home...rebuild after home was destroyed by fire. 4Sep 03, 2010 8:30 am it has been difficult but in a way a blessing,,,we were so focused on crap before the fire,,now we see things so differently,,our children survived,,which the cfa said had any of us been in the house we would not have,,,,,this puts life in such a diiferent way! finding out we were expecting our 6th child a few days after the fire was a massive suprise,,but I guess in hindsight it gave us motivation to keep going! I am a little worried about rebuilding,,,knowing what it took to build our first two houses and having to go through it again in light of all that has happened is a little scary, but hopefully once this watre issue is resolved things will be smooth sailing!
