Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 31, 2010 5:31 pm The brickwork on our house was completed yesterday. The last thing the brickie did was the portico. Now we were aware that the pillars on the front wouldn't be even but we weren't exactly sure how it would look until the bricks were actually completed. Initially we planned to add a feature band over the archway on the portico (in paperbark)......but now that I've seen the bricks in real life I am concerned that this may highlight the fact that the pillars of the portico aren't symmetrical. We are undecided about whether to add render or not and would be curious to know what YOU think. Do you think it would look OK with a "Feature" band over the top of the archway only? No render at all? Render the front of the whole portico? (If so- what 'colour' do you think would look OK) Close up of the portico (excuse the bad photos- I took the photo from my car as it was raining ) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ More info you may find relevant.... The wooden framework currently on the archway of the portico will be removed Roof will be colourbond Woodland Grey, Fascia and Garage door in Paperbark. Re: Render or no render- What do you think? Poll included 2Sep 01, 2010 1:59 am With red brick and a woodland grey roof I probably would have gone a lighter shade of grey, either windspray or shale grey for the portico. Not sure what this would look like with paperbark though? Isn't paperbark a beige/brown colour? We are building with red brick and have a windspray roof and gutters and have used shale grey on our weatherboard and surfmist under the eaves. The tones seem to work well together. Our fence and shed are woodland grey. Re: Render or no render- What do you think? Poll included 3Sep 01, 2010 9:51 am I would def render the portico, just to break up the red bricks. If you can wait until the roof is on to choice the colour, then get a couple of sample pots. Circa early to mid 90s would be my guess and maybe even as late as early 2000s 1 6631 |
