They seem to be bouncing around that still - but telling us - dont worry, we'll let you know at contract signing (26th Oct) and we will get it through. I wish they could just tell me the calcuation results and what changes we are going to need to make!!! Some good news though, during a call on Friday we were scheduled in for our Pre-selection interview, next Wednesday. So I am looking forward to getting that started. And, we have started our earthworks. As we get our site plan approved with our application for shed and cellar,we have preped the area for the house as well. This part is ahead of schedule and looking great. I love working with local tradies!!!! So here's some pics..... Before any action.... Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ My little diggers... Do I need to go prepared in any way? As far as I'm aware this is the meeting where we are given the details to actaully complete our selections? Re: Custom Build with Rendition SA 28Oct 13, 2010 10:23 am We never had a pre-selection interview so not sure what that entails. We were just given a list of the places to go to pick out our selections which was given to us when we signed the contract. I am sure that they just go through it with you and then off you go!!! You will love the selections! Some people find it stressful but I loved the experience of going to places and looking at what I could have. Unfortunately, it may mean abit of travel to Adelaide for you so you need to get things organised. the only annoying thing was that some places were not open on Saturdays so i had to take some time off work to complete the selections. ------------------------------------------------------ Handover: 14 December 2010 Current: Putting in plants! I did say "Pre wire" as in gettng the cables installed so it can happen quickly once FTTH is deployed Kodiak Data Cabling onFaceBook Consult*, Design and Installation Data, TV, Home Theatre/ AV Cabling, Multi Room Audio, IP CCTV and Door Intercoms Ask for a Quote. *DIY DATA Cabling Is Ilegal Re: Custom Build with Rendition SA 32Oct 18, 2010 10:31 am Well - really disappointing news on our front. Rendition have still not told us what our options are for 6 star energy rating drama. They expect us to go in next Wednesday to the Contract signing appointment, they will deliver the changes and we will sign the contract. What a joke. I think they are out of their minds. These changes will probably mean $10s of thousands to us in double glazing, upgraded insulation, plan and footing changes and well, we may not even like what they suggest?!?!?!?! It is likely that we wiil have to remove our gorgeous alfresco area......REALLY ** OFF..... if they had not taken ridiculous amounts of time to get plans into council - which we already gave them - we would not be in this pridicament. I am so cross that they didn't notify us of the September 1 change from 5 star to 6 star. B@st@rds. Did I mention we are really cross..... To top it all off, we went to the Pre-selection interview last week (which the dont usually do before contract signing, I think they were just trying to butter us up....) and came out of that disappointed as well. We have signed up for Rendition's "Elegance package" their top specification but quickly worked out that we would still have to upgrade so much, cornices, ridge capping for roof, tiles......just a joke. Why is communication, openness and honesty SOOO hard for this industry. I am completely at a loss and we have some big decisions to make....to them this is just another opportunity to rip someone else off, for us, this is our life. In some good news, we have been using a local earth works guy to start our excavation. He has been FABULOUS and is ahead of schedule. Calls us to check on things all the time and my husband is out helping him every couple of days driving the truck and staying in the loop......much to be said about local tradies.....maybe that give me my answer..... Re: Custom Build with Rendition SA 33Oct 18, 2010 10:43 am Oh Bec, what can I say! I mean, this is just the beginning of the frustrations! My advice is to not sign the contract until you have your full costings for what is required to make your home 6*and understand what you are up for. Once you sign, they lock you in and you have no bargaining power. We were lucky with Dechellis in that their selections were top class and there wasn't much to upgrade. Mind you, I am sure we already paid for it as they are a little more expensive than other builders but it was nice not having too big a shock in selections. I agree that communication is a thing that is completely lacking in this industry. It is the most common complaint with people who are building. I am tempted to open my own building company just so that I cna give good service and good communication and then reap the rewards! Chin up, this is just one of the many ups and downs that you will have but if you expect that, then it wont be too bad. Good that your local earthmover is good. We have had an excellent experience with our retaining wall guy who we will miss once he finishes the job! ------------------------------------------------------ Handover: 14 December 2010 Current: Putting in plants! Great floor plan, love homes where the kids area is completely seperate! Sorry to hear about the problems your having getting a 6 star energy rating, hope you get it sorted, so you can proceed with your build. Cheers Barbs Re: Custom Build with Rendition SA 37Oct 25, 2010 12:25 pm Oh Rebecca, I just had to comment because we have been very unhappy every step of the way with Rendition Homes and this is solely due to the lack of communication and the time they have taken to do everything!!! We signed the contract with them in February 2009, plans lodged to council in June 2009, pre-selection interview in July 2009. Our footings were not poured until mid June 2010!!! 16 months after contract signing! Even now, we are not even at lock-up and it is most likely we won't be in until March 2011 - more than 2 years from contract signing!!! I say March because according to the contract they give themselves 190 working days to complete the house from pouring of the footing, which works out to March. Our house is not difficult, nor large, nor did we have any issues with council. The past almost 2 years has been the worst experience. I hope things get moving for you soon. Re: Custom Build with Rendition SA 38Oct 25, 2010 9:11 pm Far out smbader......I cant believe it, yet hearing your story has made me even more comfortable with our decision. I just sent you a PM. For those that are interested, we sent a letter to the owner today advising him of our decision and the unprofessional way in which his staff has treated us. We also contacted Consumer Affairs who have given us some guidance on what our options could be. It seems that they have acted unfairly. I am looking forward to our meeting with our new builder on Friday, he's meeting us at our block and cant wait to hear what he has so say. Thanks for the positive comments all and I look forward to sharing the rest of our story. Will get some completed excavation pics on here soon.....that side of it is looking great!!! Re: Custom Build with Rendition SA 39Oct 26, 2010 10:11 am Hey Bec, looks like you have decided to go with a new builder? I think that is a wise decision given the fact that they have treated you terribly BEFORE signing the contract (i.e trying to get your businsess still!). Imagine what it would be like once you signed the contract and they had all the power! I look forward to the next update after meeting with your new builder. I know that this feels like a set-back for you but chin up - its important to get the best experience possible when building and if that means delaying things slightly then it will be worth it in the end. Am interested to see what your new builder says about the 6* stuff. ------------------------------------------------------ Handover: 14 December 2010 Current: Putting in plants!
