Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 05, 2013 11:29 pm This is our first venture into building, learning as we go! We have a corner block in an established area and our neighbours have built a two story home 10 meters back and their neighbours have a 6meter setback. The council guidelines say there must be a minimum 6 meters setback to a garage/carport in order to fit a car in the driveway. They also say there must be a minimum of 4.5 meters to the front of the house? In another section of the building code it says: where a new dwelling is to be built in an established area the front setback should be an average of two adjoining neighbours within 40 meters. Any ideas? Is it one of these? -The two closest neighbours (10m + 6m) /2 = 8 meter setback -Because I have no neighbour on one side; use the average of adjoining neighbour and council minimum (10m + 4.5m)/2 = 7.25 Re: Corner block setback in established area 2Mar 06, 2013 4:48 am The best thing to do is go and ask the council for your site.
