Building A New House
Aug 26, 2010 11:44 am
We have taken 3 phase underground electricity pit to the footpath. When your takes the wiring from underground pit on the footpath to your new electiricity meter box does he take single phase power or 3 phase power. Our builder seems to take 1 phase when we have got 3 phase till the footpath.
Has any one has taken 3 phase up to their meter box?
Did you tell your builder that you wanted 3 phase even though 1 phase is enough for your house?

We had to have 3 phase power it was due to the distance from the electricity pit to the meter box which was approx 65 mts. I dont quite recall how much it was but do remember it being expensive.

We have already got 3 phase underground pit dug. We have already paid $1700 odd to Jemena. What I now need to know is that will the builder automatically take that 3 phase from your footpath into your house meter box or would the builder only use 1 phase from the 3 phase power pit to your meter box? We want the 3 phase to go into our meter box. When we looked into our meter box it looks like only 1 phase has been taken in.

They will only take 1 phase in unless the requirements for your home need 3 phase at the planning stage. For example, if you have a very large heating/cooling system or an industrial electric stove/oven setup. Usually you need to request 3phase and there would be a separate 3phase switchboard near your meter box - but separate.
