Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 25, 2010 9:54 pm I am having issues with the tile supplier our builder uses. Long story short. I do not want to use them but the builder says that we have to. I understand there is a warranty for the wet areas but is there a way where we don't use them? I have asked to use another supplier but project coordinator said its part of their juristiction to use that supplier for our area. I really do not want to use this supplier. Any help would be appreciated. Villina with Trend facade Sydney Re: Wet areas - Does the project builder HAVE to do it? 2Aug 25, 2010 10:03 pm You chose to build with a builder. Part of that contract is to use whomever they want you to. All you can do is put it in writing to request someone else. But they have every right to decline your request and unfortunately you will have to abide by their final decision. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Wet areas - Does the project builder HAVE to do it? 3Aug 25, 2010 10:07 pm Im sure to get your certificate of occupancy, you need tiling done in the wet areas. Floor coverings through the rest of the house are not required, so one option is to use the tile supplier for the areas you "have to" and do the rest after handover. The project builder probably has contracts with the tile supplier so their hands may be tied and they really cant use another supplier. Inflexibility/limited choice of materials is one of the drawbacks of using a project builder. This is offset of course by the many advantages! Re: Wet areas - Does the project builder HAVE to do it? 4Aug 26, 2010 12:48 am Our circumstances are a bit different. Our tiler has been quite unprofessional. They haven't provided proper quotes as everytime the working out has been different. They price whatever they please. For example, one tile that we originally selected was $14 and is now $51 bucks MORE per piece! Villina with Trend facade Sydney Re: Wet areas - Does the project builder HAVE to do it? 5Aug 26, 2010 9:32 am Why are you dealing directly with the tiler? From your home being built I am assuming you are building with Masterton? In that case you would have to select a tile from their range and the laying will be included in the costing of the home. The only time the costing would change is if you are either changing the selection of tiles - in which case you would have to do a variation, or if you were trying to deal directly with the tiler. If you are trying to deal directly with the tiler then you should probably rethink whether it will benefit you in the long run. Sometimes things are better going through the builder - especially when it is something that is covered under their builder's warranty. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Wet areas - Does the project builder HAVE to do it? 6Aug 26, 2010 4:15 pm I have been dealing with the builder and due to one tile being discontinued we were required to reselect. Issue has now been sorted out. Thanks for the help anyways.
