Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 21, 2010 7:24 pm I had contracted the builders to provide a driveway for the house. The planned driveway was 3 meters wide with batter either side ( as a very steep slope). They driveway they built however was nothing like the plan and was the wrong shape and 7-8 meters wide (and then batter). I met with the builder straight after and they agreed to put it right stating that the shape was not practical (despite it being coated). They said they would fix at the end. We are now at the end and they are being a little less helpful. It seems they will reshape and cut back the width but may refuse to take away the excess soil they brought in (over 400 tones). They reason being they are stating that the original width was needed to provide site access and under the contract I am the responsible for the removal of excess soil. Do any of you know what a reasonable width would be for access burring the build? I should add that I paid crane hire for the roof frame so access was not needed for this. Re: Driveway width for build? 3Aug 23, 2010 11:30 am I don't know what industry standard would be but as an example-we are currently in the process of building and our gravel access path laid down is between 6 & 8 m wide-the couple down the road put in one 3m wide (same builder) and it is no longer in existence! 3m is just not wide enough for the trucks & vehicles involved to utilise without damage-and with rain the 3m one has just been turned to sludge!
