Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 21, 2010 2:09 am Hello all, We are currently building with SPH South West and cannot make a concrete decision on kitchen colours. I have gone back and forth at least a dozen times with pros and cons for both. We are tossing up between the following Cabinets - Classic White Benches - Essastone New Crystal Salt or Cabinets - Laminex Espresso Benches - Essastone New Crystal Salt I really love both tho my first choice was the espresso. My concern with it is that although our kitchen/living has a lot of glazing and is north facing it is sheltered by a 5.5m deep alfresco (see below), in addition to this we are building on an acre with a lot of trees which also have to be taken into account. Am just a bit worried that if we choose this option it will feel dark and cavelike. Does anyone else have a dark coloured kitchen in a similar orientation???? Any opinions would be most helpful!! Which SP home is it? ok to the question you asked re the kitchen colours....I am a big fan of the espresso cabinets with lighter bench tops (very bias tho as that's what we are having in ours!!!!) Our kitchen also faces North & now that roof is on & windows are in it's not dark in there at all. We are having light tiles throughout the living areas/kitchen as well so i think that will brighten it up even more. Good luck with it all Cooper's Build - Perth NOR viewtopic.php?f=31&t=30525 Prelim- mid Sept 2009, Pre Start 2 Feb, Siteworks- 21 April 2010, Slab- 10 May, Deliveries- all by 26 May Bricking- 28 May - 26 June, Roof complete 5 Aug, Float 28 Aug, Lock up 16 Sept Cabinets 1 Oct, Tiling 22 Oct, PCI 18 Nov, KEYS 3 Dec 2010 MOVED IN 17 DEC 2010 Re: Our SPH build - Help with kitchen 3Aug 22, 2010 9:07 am I would do darker cupboards, although you could always do a mixture of both. My upper cupboards are all a dark grey and the lower ones are polar white, i have a dark benchtop though. Re: Our SPH build - Help with kitchen 4Aug 22, 2010 1:14 pm It's been suggested to us that we do darker lower cabinets and lighter overhead. We are doing the same colour for our main cabinets (Espresso) and then I believe "Parchment" for our overhead cabinets which will make sure the area isn't too dark. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=37229 - our Iris 4! Re: Our SPH build - Help with kitchen 5Aug 23, 2010 1:50 am Thank you all for your help. Cooper, this SPH design started out as the Como, however you may notice that the only thing that remains the same is the back bedroom wing. Cannot believe they let us do so many changes, I think in total we had 7 versions/revisions drawn up so to say we are very happy with them so far is an understatement. In addition we are already at brick stage and although we have obviously done pre-start they have said that we can wait until the roof is on to see how much light is entering the living area and then alter our kitchen colours then (at no cost!!!). Alex88 and all the sand, in regards to the two tone concept we have thought about this but as we are having aluminium framed perspex cupboards on the overheads this may be enough to lighten up the dark lower cabinets. The only other concern that I have is even though myself and hubby are saying this will be our home for at least five years, (we tend to finish houses, get bored and then sell up.... this is our forth build in under eight years) do you think the espresso could put some future buyers off??? Once again thanks for all your input Asha Re: Our SPH build - Help with kitchen 6Aug 23, 2010 1:53 am oops sorry, forgot to mention that most likely have marri timber flooring and thinking white (translucent) roller blinds on the windows/sliding doors to the living area. Cheers Asha Thank you so much everyone. This all makes a lot of sense.
