We also have the PGH Oyster and were going to have Surfmist roof but changed at the last minute (literally - on the day the order was being processed) to Shale Grey. Have you noticed much variation in the sizes of the bricks at all? My builder warned me against the PGH bricks as he said there have been a lot of problems with variations in size but we really wanted the Oyster bricks so we went with it and the builder has sent through a few pics of the size variations of the bricks with a big "I told you so". It is disappointing and the brickies have done a great job in mixing them in but some of them stand out like dogs ... Re: What bricks did you choose - Show and Tell 88Jun 17, 2009 7:35 pm This is what we chose for roof and bricks. Need a good real life pic of both but it will be sometime before we have our house - the brick is Selkirk Macedon [img=http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/4317/16062009185.th.jpg] [img=http://img191.imageshack.us/img191/262/16062009182.th.jpg] Land: Titles 27/10/2009 - settled 9/11/2009 House Design: Talbot 28 (Contemporary Façade) Estimated move in date April 2010 ... ok maybe June 2010 with any luck Site Start 22/01/10 - 20/08/10 Handover!! Has anyone built with Urban One Silver? I would love to see pictures. T. We chose Urban One Silver but are yet to build. Will post some photos when they start. To be brutally honest we had no size issues and our builder certainly didn't warn us against such an issue. If you check out my blog you'll see plenty of brick pictures with beautifully even-sized bricks. Where are you building? We are in SA and have never heard of PGH size issues. Re: What bricks did you choose - Show and Tell 92Jun 22, 2009 2:10 pm We originally selected Pavilion: Colombo (Austral Bricks) however the builder called us about a week after we were supposed to have the brick work started saying Austral were out of the Colombo for up to 4-6 weeks. We quickly selected Pavilion: Mandalay (Austral Bricks) instead. See Bricks Here: http://www.australbrick.com.au/qld/product.php?ID=617 See the below result (At Lockup Stage). Hi Haze, I guess if the brickies do a good enough job then it makes it hard to see. One thing the SS said was that there were a fair few left over of the bricks that were supposed to be for the front which will be rendered and when i looked at the front they have used a heap of the house bricks and you can really see how out of size they are but it doesnt matter because it will be rendered. Glad yours are all ok. Did you get rolled joints? They started to rake mine and then they realised they were meant to be rolled and had to redo a section so hopefully it doesnt come out when they pressure clean them. We are in SA. Building in Mapleton Grove which is a development in Kilburn. House is at second fix at the moment. We are about on par looking at your blog. Tiling should start lat this week and joinery a week or two after that. Re: What bricks did you choose - Show and Tell 94Jun 24, 2009 9:59 am Can someone tell me if the bricks are always pressure cleaned? We are using Austral Sandridge and as the name might suggest they have a "sandstone" appearance, we are having Brighton Lite mortar and it mentions (NOT steam cleaned) so not exactly sure what they will do. Re: What bricks did you choose - Show and Tell 95Jun 24, 2009 11:18 am Well we had issues with our bricks, originally chose Ironstone by Selkirk then we couldn't get them so then we chose Musket Haze and couldn't get them etiher.. then we got told to choose from Boral or Austral.... So we finally decided on Raheen by Boral... We have however noticed a strange green tinge which the brickies said will clean off when they pressure clean, it's quite noticeable on some of the bricks. We have just about finished plastering so not quite 2nd fix yet for us. Sounds like things are moving along nicely for you. We are building at Woodville South so not too far from your place. Who are you building with? You can PM me if you'd rather not make it public. Cheers Re: What bricks did you choose - Show and Tell 98Jun 25, 2009 12:37 pm haze Big T Hey Big T We wanted a raked finish on our exposed bricks anyway so it was fine. I was told by PGH that you couldnt use a raked joint with the bricks because the colour isn't right through them so it shows up, but when i looked at it when they had done a few raked it was hard pretty hard to notice the secondary colour of the brick so I suppose you really need to look at it to notice which no one would. We are building with Palumbo Building. They are a family run builder who are gaining a fair bit of stature with government jobs. They are doing a lot of the defence housing works that are happening. I built the house i am living in now with them and they were really good then and have been really good so far on this one. I have known one of the sons for a few years so that helped the initial decision to go with them and our current house is still standing and their price for the new one was great so I went with them again. We have referred a few friends to them as well and they are going with them also. Re: What bricks did you choose - Show and Tell 99Aug 18, 2009 6:08 pm Would anyone have any idea how much a cat 3 brick in a PD small home would cost? Re: What bricks did you choose - Show and Tell 100Aug 18, 2009 6:24 pm We went with Austral Hawthorn, natural mortar raked and we are quite happy with the results. The brickie's sand was a little red which gives the mortar its orangey colour but looks ok. No the fireplace doesn’t work. It’s been enclosed.
