Also standard with our builder and they look fantastic. We loved the larger size brick and the limestone blends with the cream mortar to create a uniform colour affect.

Oh, yeah. We ended up chosing Austral Cotham which is part of the Melbourne Range. It was one that stood out to us, and matched our internal scheme - so the theme flows. It was an upgrade (what did we pick that wasn't!?) but we think it's worth it.

We ended up going for a brand new brick from the Selkirk range called Ironstone....
When we wanted to go and check out houses that were using this brick, well because it was brand new, it hadn't been shipped out to sites as yet!!! So we now have 3 brick samples with us in a selkirk box to carry around..... And i have attached a picture from Cosham Interiors with our colours....the only change we ended up making was we changed the windows to black instead of paperbark. We also chose to use natural mortar instead of the popular white colour as we wanted to be different... there are plenty of houses that are going the white morter, and i didn't want our place to look like all of them.... no offence to those who have selected the white mortar. We just didn't want the mortar to be a highlight of the facade.... We also chose a raked mortar effect - once again so that the mortar was not so much a feature. We want the bricks and the feature render to stand out more than the mortar.... The reason we chose Ironstone was we were not red brick people and thought that a lot of homes are being built in neutral tones....let's be different, yet tasteful.... Well we hope it works out that way.... Re: What bricks did you choose - Show and Tell 6Nov 06, 2007 8:59 pm Austral Brick's Homestead range in 'Mushroom'.

I was going to search through the forum looking for 'brick' threads, but you have saved me the trouble!
We are now getting pretty sick of 'drive by's' studying people's rooves/gutters/bricks/garages etc...too many to choose from! We looked at Selkirks' Tawney Heritage again today, but I feel it is a little too on the tan side for the look we want to achieve. I'll probably head out to Boral again this week and take more pics of the bricks I'm interested in, but at this stage it appears Borals' 'Rattan' is high on the list after one 'drive by' yesterday (and again today...and probably tomorrow as well! ) Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... We are about 5 minutes from Boral in Scoresby. Re: What bricks did you choose - Show and Tell 11Nov 06, 2007 10:04 pm well we are far from choosing our bricks as we havent even chosen our builder yet! But we know what we like and have done many a drive by looking at houses with the style/colour we want....here is an example
we want a dark brick with a light contrasting mortar and we will also look at silver or white aluminuim (awning) windows - we are also going to match this up with a light colored colourbond roof - maybe white, silver or creamy - should make for a nice sharp contrast!! Oh and I LOVE bmp's large bricks...we havent ruled them out yet, but they are second on the list! Oh and as it is so early in the piece....I reserve the right to change my mind....many times over!!! Ruth -Bought house in Melbourne inner burbs, knocked it down & now...we are owner builders! Completed OB project and moved in to our new home with our new baby in May 2009! Re: What bricks did you choose - Show and Tell 12Nov 06, 2007 10:09 pm We chose Austral's Hawthorn with off white mortar.
We liked it the 1st time we saw it in one of our builder's display homes. It's a category 3 bricks, thus, an upgrade. http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc22/venielynnr/P2240007.jpg ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! Re: What bricks did you choose - Show and Tell 13Nov 06, 2007 10:31 pm Great topic which I'm watching closely as we have to choose bricks very soon - I want something really dark with white mortar too Ruth - hope our houses aren't too close! Fi has moved in!! Re: What bricks did you choose - Show and Tell 14Nov 07, 2007 6:34 am We have Austral bricks - Homestead 'Tan' with off white mortar, we are really happy with them.
Our neighbours across the road have used Austral - Element 'zinc', they look fantastic ! Re: What bricks did you choose - Show and Tell 15Nov 07, 2007 8:33 am http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v229/firthy26/colourchips.jpg
These were the ones on the display house. It was good to see them on the finished product instead of trying to choose from just ONE brick & visualising How they would look on a whole wall / house. To be honest, we probably would have chose them anyway even if we didn't see them on the display house. Cheers, Mike.
