Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Our custom build in Devonia Park Pakenham 162Oct 02, 2010 9:45 pm Yeah fair score with the locks. I'm pretty sure you need them for your insurance. i had an argument with my insurance provider (GIO) about window locks. they still required them on awning windows. You have to break the window before you can wind it out. So what’s the point??? I understand with other types of windows, but awning Re: Our custom build in Devonia Park Pakenham 163Oct 02, 2010 9:56 pm From what I understand most insurance companies don't require you to have them but if you do have them you have to use them. Same with deadlocks, if you have them and you are broken into and they aren't locked then it's an excuse for them to get out of paying. Our windows are all double glazed awning windows. We thought the same as you that they aren't as necessary on awning windows. I would have preferred them if they were the type that has a button to lock them. Saves having a key to lock and unlock. Anyway we have them now for free. We tend to open more doors than windows so some of them will never be opened. Re: Our custom build in Devonia Park Pakenham 164Oct 02, 2010 10:08 pm our awning windows dont have the button. where i'm atm has the buttons. so much easier Re: Our custom build in Devonia Park Pakenham 165Oct 04, 2010 11:02 am Well done on getting the windows, now for the frame ... fingers crossed for this week! We had handover Friday ... and a few things have gone wrong. We have ony luke warm water and the gas cooktop only gives a little flame - 2 hrs to boil water - and we have another leak. This time under the kitchen sink. We also had another flood in the bathroom with the same blocked drain that caused the original flood. So we are once again under water - however we didn't manage to flood the carpet!!!!! They should be able to send someone out tomorrow to fix drainage issues and we'll have to wait for a week maybe for oven/cooktop - we also waiting for another rangehood because it is bent and doesn't fit the space correctly. They have arranged that for Thursday. Eventually, I hope we'll get a house that works! Keep us posted on your frame ... great weather for the builders at the moment. Re: Our custom build in Devonia Park Pakenham 166Oct 04, 2010 11:11 am Really makes me wonder about the plumber that they use. Jess had plumbing leaks too. We'll definitely be looking closely at all the plumbing before we move in. I hope the house is quickly fixed to the dream home that you want it to be...........including brand new carpet. Maybe it would have been better if the carpet was wet again. Re: Our custom build in Devonia Park Pakenham 167Oct 05, 2010 10:45 am Well, have just spoken to the builder and supposedly our frame is scheduled for tomorrow. The person I spoke to seemed a bit surprised that nothing had happened in the three weeks since the slab. Hopefully some exciting action tomorrow. Re: Our custom build in Devonia Park Pakenham 169Oct 05, 2010 3:12 pm I hope they're right Catjim! A frame by the end of the week = *fingers crossed*! I'd get the gutters to match your roof and pipes to match the paint - otherwise they become a feature.
