Browse Forums Building A New House Re: NBG Blaxland 200E - Builders gone bust..... 701Sep 24, 2013 6:52 pm So long since the last update.... Problems getting engineer to design a fix in a timely manner so vmia got another engineer out to quote and design a fix with a builder. Got a letter in the mail a few weeks later to say that vmia had accepted the quote.of the builder who was there with engineer. Quote was an obscene amount of money with me being out of pocket. Followed up with vmia to get engineer fix so that I could get local builder to quote on that part of the work as the builder had already quoted on the rest. Local builder quote came on over $50,000 cheaper than the quote vmia had accepted. Submitted updated local builder quote to vmia yesterday and waiting for a decision. Local builder can start immediately and I have so much faith in him as a builder. Hoping they accept my local builder if not it looks like I am off to VCAT to appeal. It has been 12 months now since any builders were on site. Just over it all and hoping I can be in by Christmas. Managed to get the local builder to quote on the remaining work and his quote came in much cheaper. VMIA accepted his quote. Luckily for me with most of my home being an inside job the wet weather meant by builder was short on inside work and was able to start the day after official word that his quote had been accepted. The majority of the structural work as been completed now with slab fix / strengthening completed and some internal walls straightened. The builder is hoping to have my house finished by Christmas so hoping everything will fall into place. Soon this nightmare build that has taken over two and a half years will be over!!! Fighting over the slab issues caused major delays but didn't have a choice. When it was investigated found plumber had cut through mesh, used under sized pipes and had wrong fall in the pipes. New plumber said pipes would have been blocked within 12 months. Think I am finally on the home straight now with a builder I have total confidence in. Our first build was with Avonwood right when they went broke and it was an absolute nightmare for us. What you're going through is much worse. I really feel for you. I hope you'll love your house at the end of it. ~ Sarah ~ First build was a nightmare, why are we considering a second build?! Plans on hold for a few years, doesn't mean I can't look. A lot! Re: NBG Blaxland 200E - Builders gone bust..... 708Nov 28, 2013 9:54 am Thanks. I am sure I will love the house. The builders were refusing to address a lot of the issues and I really had to argue with them over so many items. They would not address defects properly and tried to get out of doing things that were clearly part of the contract or close enough being good enough. For me them going bust did cause major delays but at the end of the day I know every defect is being fixed and the quality of finishes will be much better. After not going near the house for months it is nice to visit and seeing work being done. Looking forward to moving in finally and starting the landscaping.
