Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 13, 2010 11:05 am This my first posting so please be gentle... We are building with Allcastle in the northern Sydney region and have been very frustrated by the lack of progress on our build. It's a two-storey project home that commenced in March this year, and now after 23 weeks we are still waiting on the roof to be installed. Has the weather really been so bad in Sydney that delays like this are happening across the board?? The reason I question this is that two friends of mine are building their homes in the same suburb and both of them have been progressing quickly without any problems due to wind and rain... Would love to hear everyone's POV and experiences. Cheers, Dan Re: Builder Delays... Is your home taking longer than expect 2Aug 13, 2010 1:17 pm Hi Dan, No you are not alone. I am also in Sydney and my build has been delayed and delayed and delayed due to rain. My bricking stage took 2 months to complete, 4 weeks of that was non stop rain back in May/June. Really envy those of us that have slab in June, Roof in July and lockup in August ... not so smooth over here I also think I am low on the builder's priority list as I am considered 'far away' from their key building market, I somehow have a suspicion the builds in the Blacktown area are much faster. Oh well, it will eventually finish, hang in there Good luck jim Re: Builder Delays... Is your home taking longer than expect 3Aug 13, 2010 1:44 pm Thanks Jim, Yes the rain seems to have slowed things up for some builds but not others due to timing of slab, and I guess we all have to accept the rain as a real reason for us. I guess my frustrations chiefly lie with Allcastle who are delaying things even with days of sunshine, the reasoning is always that they are "catching up because of the rain"... So for us it seems the rain isn't the only thing delaying the build, but we hope to hang in there, thanks for your kinds words. Still interested in others' opinions. In the hope that it serves as motivation for both of us, I race you to the finish line! jim Re: Builder Delays... Yes we are happy with our brick colour, it came out a little darker than we expected, certainly darker than what we saw at Austral. But it's not too far off. The close up shots of my bricks within the blog is almost exactly how they are real life, so no complains from me. Good luck with your build, share your blog if you have one Cheers Jim Re: Builder Delays... Is your home taking longer than expect 9Dec 08, 2010 8:53 pm Heya Jim, Yes that what I have noticed around the brick colours in pictures from peoples blogs/threads that the Austral One Latte bricks seem to be darker than what they look like in he brick yard. Glad to hear some good feedback on the bricks as it gives us some assurance that we made the right choice. We don't have a blog but our thread is viewtopic.php?f=31&t=40540 we are only at getting the frames up... so still a long way to go Project History Deposit - 20/4/2010 Land Settled - 20/8/2010 Council - 30/9/2010 Slab - 17/11/2010 Bricks - 28/01/2011 Roof - 5/02/2011 Gyprock - 4/03/2011 Re: Builder Delays... Is your home taking longer than expect 10May 27, 2014 9:31 pm Read this post with interest, thanks for all the posts. We are considering building our home, it will be a KDR. So far I have met with Calrendan and Sekisui, meeting with Masterton and Allcastle sales coming weekend. Same story and delima, I like Masterton Grange but it is too big to fit on the land we have and Sekisui display home looked too simple but then I find it better because they appear to be what you get for the base price. With AC i like the Grandworth with some modifications. The journey as begun and I am personally inclined towards AC just because they appear to be the cheapest based on the price list. Please let us know if you have any recent experience with Sekisui or Allcastle homes. thanks. 23/06/2014 - Paid deposit 21/07/2014 - ordered the survey and tender 13/08/2014 - soils test sample taken 14/08/2014 - survey done today 30/08/2014 - Pre-color consultant aptmnt Re: Builder Delays...
