Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 10, 2010 4:14 pm Just wondering as hubby and I want one and are thinking of getting the builder to make a provision for a jet master heat and glo. Or maybe they should install it altogether. Anyone got what it cost them and any tips or advice on whats needed. Thanks Re: Anyone got a gas fireplace in your new home 2Aug 10, 2010 4:45 pm We are looking at getting a gas fireplace installed (after handover) and we are planning to get the unit flush mounted on the wall so part of the unit hangs outside contained in a weather box. I didn't know that was an option until speaking to an fireplace installer. We only asked the builder to put in a gas and power point at that location. Do you want yours mounted within a mantelpiece? Re: Anyone got a gas fireplace in your new home 3Aug 10, 2010 5:18 pm we have provision for one, it cost $1000. but we've been here 18 months and haven't got round to putting an actual one in yet "Your emotions are the slaves to your thoughts, and you are the slave to your emotions." — Elizabeth Gilbert Living in our new house. Re: Anyone got a gas fireplace in your new home 4Aug 10, 2010 9:35 pm We were going to get one through the builder however it was going to cost $12,000 so we went to illusions and bought one for $3000 and the builder charged us 1800 to change the walls, put in a bulkhead and install it for us. Re: Anyone got a gas fireplace in your new home 5Aug 10, 2010 10:06 pm We moved in last week and have a high output heat n glo, as we want to use this as our main source of heating in the evenings...and I love it! It was expensive through the builder but they would only give a maximum of $3k for provisions which we needed for other things. We have a plaster step out, ceaserstone hearth and fully programmable controller. This cost $7.5k. I think I could of purchased it for around 4.5k plus installation if we had done it ourselves. There is nothing like having the timer set to turn on for when you wake in the morning! Re: Anyone got a gas fireplace in your new home 6Aug 10, 2010 11:28 pm Is this about flued fireplaces? I was told by a famous gas fireplace co. that it would cost approx 20-25k, depending on finishes and size ... the issue was that there were too many changes to the house to fit a proper flued fireplace, plus we probably needed a much larger room for it to look better and make any economic sense. The builder is doing the work. It cost us around $5,000. It will fit into a space constructed off the inside wall of the house with a granite mantle piece. We intend to mount the TV on the wall above the fire place. Hope it works. I would like a mantel maybe a traditional white timber one or a funky modern piece of stone over the top. Not sure yet. From the repsonses I guess I am going back to the builder to ask them for a quote for the provision then. Our friend can supply the actual gas unit and install it and yes it is going to be flued. He says we should have the provision made now as then the wall heater profile will be flush(i'm not sure if I like that). Otherwise installing it after handover means that there will be a 30cm profile, he will then gyprock around it and add a mantel etc. I'm confused. I am sick of going back to the builder every five munites and asking for a variation quote. The architect and costing guy must hate me by now. Thanks for your responses. Its a Wonderfire with a Zero clearence housing and fan unit in a Cast iron unit with mantel and flu totaled $3400..... insert and harth tiles "$473.60". Looks great. Don't know how much it was to install as it was included in the build price. If so what were the "special circumstances" under which it was granted?
