Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 09, 2010 2:42 pm For those with two storey houses, what sort of lighting have you got upstairs? Downlights (and if so how many per bedroom) or just one light in the middle? Re: Two storey houses and lighting 3Aug 09, 2010 2:56 pm We have batten lights in the bedrooms (1 in the middle), 2 in the TV area and one off to the side next to the linen cupboard so you can see to put stuff away at night. We have 1 halogen downlight in the bathroom, plus one batten light over the mirror, and 2 halogens in the ensuite and 2 battens (1 over each mirror/basin). 1 batten light each or the 2 toilets (separate rooms). Also a batten in the WIR and a wall light above the mirror. We probably could have had extra in the MB, but I wanted a chandelier so 1 batten it was! It's Ok to see, and we have bedside lamps to read, anyway... It's more important to get the lighting right during construction downstairs than upstairs. At least you can get into the roof and change lights or add others if you have to for the second storey, it's a lot trickier for the ground! Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... I love my house!! My biggest concern with upstairs is that I want a ceiling fan in each bedroom. Also, I dont want downlights upstairs as they are a lot more exy to buy and run, and also don't want to make holes in my insulation I was thinking of one ceiling fan with an inbuilt light per bedroom (upstairs) but there isn't much variety when it comes to those, and from what I've heard they aren't very bright... Does anyone have any suggestions? Would love to hear them... Re: Two storey houses and lighting 5Aug 09, 2010 3:29 pm We used downlights upstairs, 4 in our bedroom with fan in the centre, 4 in the study, sparky cut too many holes so we added more 4 over the lounge area with fan in centre, plus 2 double downlights over the breakfast bar and 3 square fluoros in the centre of the kitchen, sparky cut too many holes in the kitchen too so we added another fluoro luckily they look fine Re: Two storey houses and lighting 6Aug 09, 2010 4:26 pm What do you all think of fans with a Max lamp wattage: Incandescent lamps and halogen: 60W? Would this be bright enough for a standard size bedroom? Re: Two storey houses and lighting 7Aug 10, 2010 12:25 am We have these fan/lights http://www.beaconshop.com.au/index.php? ... &Itemid=1# and they provide enough light in all bedrooms except ours. Our bedroom is quite large, so we are going to look at using a higher wattage bulb. Judie Re: Two storey houses and lighting 8Aug 10, 2010 10:28 am Hi Judie Do you know if you are currently using 60W globes? Re: Two storey houses and lighting 9Aug 10, 2010 12:27 pm I know they're expensive but I still like the Fanaway Fans from Beacon. They have a circular fluoro in them. They come with a 40W but you can get the same tube as a 55W Warm white which is plenty of light.
