Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 09, 2010 9:03 am Hi everyone, We had our inspection with M on Sunday, the house is due next Tuesday adn only expected to be complete a little over then. We have had some feature walls done by the painter - the colour is Dulux How Now - a real rich terracotta colour. Looks great untill we notices the MASSIVE plaster join that is still visable through the paint... Anyone experienced this before? We have a good site manager that allowed us to have the feature walls painted off the plans so I really don't know what our options are...but we are NOT happy with this!!! Also - when we went to Studio M we chose river reds for our decking from a group of varnished boards, so we where expecting our deck and portico to have been varnished too - turns out its not which I think is VERY wrong as we chose the colour at Studio M expecting to get that colour! Just like the timber window frames they should have come complete with stain/varnish! Thoughts??? Thanks all! Can see plaster join through PAINT!!! 3Aug 09, 2010 7:53 pm The feature wall would be the painters prob wouldnt it as it was off the plan????....If you orgainised it with painter yourself I think its up to you and him to sort it. Also did you pay for the decking to be varnished..if so i you should still have it done. What does the site manager say??? Re: HELP! Can see plaster join through PAINT!!! 4Aug 09, 2010 8:22 pm we have a dark colour throughout our house and there were noticeable plaster joins we had the painter do a third coat which fixed the problem. Re: HELP! Can see plaster join through PAINT!!! 5Aug 09, 2010 8:25 pm Is the deck / window staining mentioned in your contract / written documents? If not then you will probably not be able to make them do it, if it is however then they have to keep their word. The painting / plaster join is really between you and the painter - not your builder. The painter should have prepped the area better when using a darker colour which always will show any flaws. Did you have a written contract with him? Cannot stress the importance of having a signed contract - without it you probably don't have a leg to stand on unfortunately. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: HELP! Can see plaster join through PAINT!!! 6Aug 09, 2010 8:32 pm if the painter was not organised through the builder, they will probably both try to blame each other "Your emotions are the slaves to your thoughts, and you are the slave to your emotions." β Elizabeth Gilbert Living in our new house. Can you elaborate on what you are seeing?--is it a joint that seems to be proud or overbuilt?-- Re: HELP! Can see plaster join through PAINT!!! 8Aug 10, 2010 9:14 am We built with M and had the same issue with our deck. I said to the SS why isn't the deck stained and they said where does it say so in the contract. And of course it didn't and I said well we selected a colour but no luck. The painter offered to do it but after seeing the crap job he did on the stained doors we said no. We did it our self and I think it looks better. But it pays to get everything in the contract lesson learnt for us.
