Browse Forums Building A New House Re: M&J's Build- FINALLY back with more pics page 18 361Jun 19, 2011 9:21 pm No- it just the way it has come out in the photos. The rooms with the red and blue walls are actually on the darker side because they only have small windows and are off a semi enclosed area. Re: M&J's Build- FINALLY back with more pics page 18 362Jun 19, 2011 9:50 pm H[ Miss ,if you are going to put more pics up would you put one of planks meeting your tiles. Is the colour much lighter than pics Thanks. Re: M&J's Build- FINALLY back with more pics page 18 363Jun 19, 2011 10:07 pm Pattycake- I'll see if I can give that a try for you at some point in the next couple of days. My tiles are really shiny though and I'm sure the reflection off them is likely to distort the colours. I'm not exactly the best photographer and when photographing the house I've actually found it really hard to take a photo so that the colours come up true to life (You can see that in the photos of my kitchen splashback especially- It is perfectly matched to the linseed feature wall but doesn't look like it is i the photo) Something else that would probably be even more helpful for you is to go to the Kardean website and request a few FREE samples and then you can see exactly what the colours are like in real life. I made two requests for samples before I made my decision. Intially they sent me a bundle of small squares (probably about 10 x 10cm from memory) The second time they sent me a couple of entire planks. The colour we selected was Summer Oak from the Art select range. We had also considered the Spring Oak but the darker knotted bits of the Summer Oak looked much better against the Licorice Linea cupboards on the kitchen island bench, the curtain colour and paint colour we selected for the walls. I'm glad I had the samples on hand to put up against our other choices Cheers! Re: M&J's Build- FINALLY back with more pics page 18 364Jun 20, 2011 7:04 am the house really is quite lovely isnt it. do you love living in it? do you keep wiping down the benches just to touch them!? Re: M&J's Build- FINALLY back with more pics page 18 365Jun 20, 2011 9:49 am Hi Miss, one of the nicest houses on here, looking great, your daughter's room is so pretty. Tip for you with regard to hanging things on the wall use the 3M hooks - we've got them in the rental and plan to use them when we move - there's nothing worse than putting something up on the wall, changing your mind, having to repaint, etc etc - we did it so many times!! For info on our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43093 Built the McLaren by Dechellis - slab down 22 Feb - handover 30 Aug 2011 - and gardens finished 9 Dec 2012!! Re: M&J's Build- FINALLY back with more pics page 18 366Jun 20, 2011 10:15 am Wow, I love the light fitting in the main bedroom, very pretty! Your place looks so great, I like the fact that you have curtains in the lounge room too, big curtain fan here. Well done Re: M&J's Build- FINALLY back with more pics page 18 368Jun 20, 2011 6:25 pm Thanks Miss, will see if they can a plank Re: M&J's Build- FINALLY back with more pics page 18 369Jun 20, 2011 8:45 pm You bet Kiwi! I kind of miss driving past it to check on progress so I have now replaced that habit with other ones such as wiping down benches, and mopping just so I can touch it all Bahaha! Here's hoping that habit doesn't wear off too quickly! Yep Gelatiii! The pantry on the left hand side has two doors and behind the top two shelves are fixed and then underneath are four rows of pull out draws. Each draw is over 70cm wide and so I can fit lots in and don't have to worry about reaching into the back of the cupboard to get stuff. The brand is 'harn' and they are similar to the ones pictured here..... http://www.harn.com/products/triomax_overview.html On the right hand side next to the fridge the whole pantry pulls out. There are 5 levels of shelving. I'm not sure whether the brand of the pullout is also 'harn' but I am presuming it is because all of the other soft close drawers in the kitchen are 'harn'. I LOVE them. It makes better use of the storage space and it SO much easier to access stuff. No more reaching into the back of cupboards! All the best with getting your plank samples Pattycake. It is definitely the way to go! So much better to be able to put the samples you receive up against your other colour choices! Thanks bellbirdretreat. I am enjoying telling people that I picked a chandelier so that I can 'swing from the chandelier" in my bedroom. We also have the same light fitting in the entry but it has a white shade instead of the black in the bedroom. I love the 'timeless look' of curtains. Where we are it costs a little more than some of the other window treatments we could have got...but well worth it and also very functional. The back wall of our theatre room has the same type of curtain- but I don't have a photo of that to share. My husband selected the size and position of the window in that room and it is sitting to the left with nothing balancing it out on the right hand side and I knew I wouldn't be able to bear walking into the room so we covered the entire wall in a curtain. It looks quite effective- kind of like a cinema (At least in my own imagination it does lol!) Re: M&J's Build- FINALLY back with more pics page 18 370Jun 20, 2011 8:51 pm Thank you McLaren. I really love how my daughter's room is looking at the moment. She wanted it to be nice and girly and I think we've achieved that look (Even though I haven't finished adding my final touches) Thanks for the tip with the 3m hooks. Do they really work and do they come off OK? I used some stuff in our previous house to stick up a poster for my son (don't recall the brand but could have been a product by 3m) and it claimed that it didn't mark the wall. I found it pretty good .....except that right before moving house I removed the top before the bottom and the weight of the top of the poster pulled on the adhesive and actually pulled the paint off the wall. I think there is sometimes definitely a knack with some of these products. Feel free to share your application and removal tips for the 3m hooks! LOL! I don't think my husband is wanting to repaint this place any time soon LOL! Re: M&J's Build- FINALLY back with more pics page 18 371Aug 05, 2011 3:01 pm oi, how are you? enjoying that fab kitchen I bet Re: M&J's Build- FINALLY back with more pics page 18 372Sep 09, 2011 6:11 pm Well helloooooo I didn't want to be one of those people who moved into their house and then disppeared from H1 all together so I thought it best to come back and say "hi" Not much happenin' on the home front. We've just been enjoying living, running kids around to their activities and what not and working hard to pay off the mortgage. The house layout is really working for us! Lovin' my kitchen and well everything reallyy! We still have heaps to do but we're just takng our time with it all! We only have one garden bed and we're thinking it is about time we get some lawn down or something. I am dreading the idea of getting lawn established and then it getting all ripped up when we put in a pool so I'm hoping we can do some number crunching and get the pool in BEFORE we get to work on the lawn! If things all go to plan hopefully I'll have some pool progress photos to share....perhaps in a few months time! Sadly one of our precious pooches passed away last Sunday and she now has her own little spot in our backyard. Memories are being made in our new home already! Re: M&J's Build- FINALLY back with more pics page 18 373Sep 09, 2011 7:23 pm Miss We're finding the flooring really good so far- No complaints here. I find it easy to clean etc. We got ours from a solomons flooring store The main wall colour is dulux white duck (1/2 strength) and the feature wall colour is dulux linseed. The kitchen splashback is also linseed- matched to the feature wall colour although I don't think the photos have done it justice! Looks nicer in real life! Your house is seriously amazing We too have choosen Dulux duck but at 1/4. Your walls look so warm Hope you might share your gardening journey? Very to sad to hear about your pooch though Would love to see those pool photos when they happen - we plan to get a pool too - if we ever get the building started! https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43937&start=0 Bought a block in Golden Grove - Jan 2011 Finally finished our design, Mar 2012, *yay* Signed with ADH council consent June 12 Re: M&J's Build- FINALLY back with more pics page 18 375Nov 04, 2011 3:58 pm Well popping back in to let you know we've picked out our pool and if all goes well with approval from the shire then it should be in before Christmas time! It's nothing fancy and it isn't very big- but I'm still VERY excited! It can get SOO hot here in the summer time and it will be nice to have a place to go and keep cool. I think one of the things I am looking forward to the most is getting the pool in so that we can complete the backyard! At the moment we've just got one garden bed in and we've been waiting for the pool before we put down lawn. (Access to put the pool is right across the area where we plan to put the lawn) I've had enough of the backyard being a huge dustbowl! I thought I'd also share some photos of my much loved and lived-in craft space. You can see them on my blog here>>> http://www.creationsbymiriam.com Re: M&J's Build- FINALLY back with more pics page 18 376Nov 04, 2011 9:23 pm I looove your craft room! So organised and loads of storage - must be a dream to work in there It is very inspiring, I will have my own room but won't get built in's apart from a sliding robe. I shall be putting shelves and drawers inside and buying the other furniture for the room. At this stage I'm not sure how I want to set it out. I make quilts and fabric items (cushions, cloth dolls etc) and I also like to do a bit of folk art so I have a lot of fabric and tools which will need organised storage. I am looking forward to my room especially as a lot of my stuff is in storage at the moment I just can't get motivated! https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43937&start=0 Bought a block in Golden Grove - Jan 2011 Finally finished our design, Mar 2012, *yay* Signed with ADH council consent June 12 Re: M&J's Build- FINALLY back with more pics page 18 377Nov 04, 2011 9:25 pm BTW - great news about the pool! https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43937&start=0 Bought a block in Golden Grove - Jan 2011 Finally finished our design, Mar 2012, *yay* Signed with ADH council consent June 12 I am building in claymore NSW and this is shown in the building envelope plan. … 0 10035 My land is 260m2 (10m x 26m) located in claymore NSW.
