Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 03, 2007 7:55 pm Hi all,
Just found this site this evening as we are at the stage of deciding on an Architect/Builder to build our new home. At the moment I have a general question. Does anyone out there have any experience with Comdain Homes, as we are considering contracting their services to design and construct our new home. :) Re: Comdain Homes 2Nov 03, 2007 9:59 pm Eva,
Personally haven't heard of them myself. Hopefully someone here has! They are building a couple of townhouses at the moment in Brunswick. They are just stunning. I drool over these townhouses on my way from work and one day I noticed their van outside and thought - well I should have guessed it was them, as the house on their website (with the big square window) is my absolute favourite exterior of any house - just with a bit of grey, not green/yellow. ![]() ![]() Don't know anything else about them though... Re: Comdain Homes 11Nov 03, 2007 11:54 pm Hi Mek,
We visited their display home in Balwyn, and was very impressed by their quality, what we seek information about is relating to their quality after sales, through to management of the project and how well the client is looked after. Its all very well being impressed on the first visit, however, need advice on how the deal with the client during the project. Where is this project in Brunswick? Re: Comdain Homes 12Nov 04, 2007 2:21 pm Hi Eva,
Comdain homes are a small boutique builder who are supposedly known for building quality homes. They have a few developments at Edgewater...Maribyrnong, Vic and our best friends are building through them. They have all their own tradesman which is why they are able to guarantee their work as well as the time they take to build with each house. They also have in house architects and designers which clients are able to use when you build with them. Apparently it is still a small family business that have been in the building trade for quite a long time. I think they build between 30-50 homes a year. From what I know about them, they would be an excellent builder to definately consider if you are building a custom built home. How do I know this...We spoke to one of the owners last year about building our own home. He was very honest and said unless we are prepared to spend at least 15k sqm , there was no use in getting a quote. They are very expensive but worth the money if you can afford it. Our friends are building through them and have nothing but praise for the admin people. You have the freedom to take your time with colour selection and nothing is too big or difficult for the staff to help you with. I hope this has been of some help. Mrs B Re: Comdain Homes 13Nov 04, 2007 2:41 pm Eva, the townhouses are just outside Jewel train station platform 1. There is also a couple of already lived-in townhouses on Union Street which is pretty much as you cross the train tracks from Jewel platform 2. They look very similar to the newly built ones so I'd say they are also by Comdain. Re: Comdain Homes 14Nov 04, 2007 3:29 pm Hello Mek and Mrs B,
Both your responses have been of great help thus far. We may take a trip to Brunswick and take everything on board about Comdain. Thanks once again. If anyone else out there has any more experiences with Comdain, it would be of great help to share your experience. Added 15Nov 07, 2007 12:36 am Hi Eva
Welcome to the forum. Comdain were not listed on BB but they have been added now. If you have not checked there website have a look: www.comdain.com.au/ComdainHomes/ They list locations of display homes you might want to check out. It would be great to hear how you get on if you proceed with them! Best regards Re: Comdain Homes 16Nov 08, 2007 11:48 am Comdain Homes started as a business (not homes at that stage) either in the 60's or 70's

All the best DQQ Never argue with an idiot!!!! They drag you down to their level then beat you with experience. Re: Comdain Homes 17Nov 11, 2007 2:02 pm Hi,
I had the same response as MrsB, if you have $15K psqm then they will be interested. When I asked about a double storey and the sort of materials they use; they said it was all light weight foam - personally I like brick top-and bottom. I do agree, the exteriors do look great. * Are we there yet ? Demolition has come and gone ! yippeeee..hang on that was months ago !! come on Mr Builder, dig a hole at least ![]() Finaly ! Hole Dug ! well done darren 20/06/2010. Slab is down ! Framing is complete 20/10/2010 we are progressing like a snail on heat - excited and determined but very very slow ![]() Steveo Re: Comdain Homes 18Jun 16, 2013 2:12 pm I realize this is an older thread however friends of ours have built with them and it took an awfully long time to complete. They were referred to them by a mutual friend who is one of their contractors. It should be noted that as with most builders they do engage contractors to do the work which is normal but as tradesmen need to go where there is work they tend to stick with the volume builders who provide them with on-going jobs. When a builder cannot provide on-going work for trades due to low volume the trades cannot sit around waiting for work so they tend to do more work for the big buiders. There are many builders that do custom work including larger builders (maybe not the mass volume ones) and there are a number of reputable builders that can do it at a much better rate than the $15,000 pre square metre as mentioned by one post. There are a few highly reputable international builders that are now buiilding in Australia and I would suggest considering one of these. Re: Comdain Homes 19Jun 16, 2013 3:18 pm Be careful with reputation. Why? I deal with disreputable things done by reputable builders almost daily. Good reputation is just the starting line then it is: Research Cool head Project control and vigilance Good luck From my experience any builder including a reputable one is capable of a bad job.
