Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 06, 2010 9:14 pm Hello all, We really need help please...We're starting to build our house on a sloping block with a fall of approximately over 3m (fall = calculated this as difference of highest elevation at the back and the lowest elevation at the front which is the street, please correct me if I'm wrong). As earlier agreed to build according to the slope of the ground to minimise site cost with a private builder, I'm afraid this is not happening. We are facing a dilemma of paying a huge amount of site cost due to the excavation done. Our house design is a split level, two levels at the front (living areas at the bottom and bedrooms on top) and one level at the back (dining, rumpus and alfresco inclusive). According to the council, we're allowed to either cut OR fill of 1m to comply with the gradients. That's fine. The builder have excavated the block leaving only a meter at the back to protect adjoining property from damage as they've got swimming pool there. We have a 450 sq m block, I have calculated approximately the volume to be removed as 435cubic meter and double it up as it is compacted so the total would be 870 cubic meter. NOW, to my question, how much would it cost really to do excavating and dumping? How many trucks do we need to do this job? He's charging us $470 per load, is this a reasonable cost? My calculations are just approximations, if you can calculate more accurately plus quotes, we will greatly appreciate that. Thanks in advance for your input. Any suggestions to do this effectively considering costs and ways, we'll definitely take it on board. This is also our first time to build and it's already scaring me...SO PLEASE HELP US... Kindest Regards, Knox Re: SITE COST FOR A SLOPING BLOCK 2Aug 07, 2010 2:09 pm Hi Knox, We paid $500 + GST per truck load for our excavation. They took away 23 loads. Not sure how many cubic metres of fill was removed though. You can have a look at a few pics from late 2009 on our blog below. Might give you an idea. Mick Give Jonathan a call. Tell him you know me. He is in my opinion the best surveyor I have ever worked with. Just shoot out some emails to volume builders in… 3 18563 Howdy all. I am looking for feedback on what people would do to maximise and make an area as flat as possible. First, out the front of the house is a sloping hill, pretty… 0 20153 |
