Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 06, 2010 12:59 pm We want to build a new home so we have looked at that many display homes to get a feel for whats possible - and I'm worried that the more we look the more confused I am and we'll never build. Many display homes seem to be nicely built and good value - but presumably they do their best builds at the display homes. My list of possibilities are: Rural Building (really clever designs), Plunkett, Lifestyle, APG, Webb & Brown-Neaves and Averna (though might be a bit pricey). Im only looking at a large single storey home. I'd be grateful for all suggestions and advice. Re: Help! Which builder to use to build new home 2Aug 06, 2010 1:55 pm No-one can help you to decide. The only way is to do the hard work. Establish your needs and what is important to you, both floorplan and inclusions. Do the leg work it takes to get around to find out as much info as you can from the builders, what is included in the base price, how much upgrades cost, whether you are paying for standard inclusions you don't want, whether they can alter and customise a standard plan to better suit your needs, it goes on and on and on...... and then go from there. One of the best things to do is put it all on a spreadsheet. You will find horror stories and fantastic stories on all these builders. Get references from them and actually speak to the contacts. Go around new estates and find houses being built by these companies.... get out and have a chat to the tradies, you may be surprised how brutually honest they will be. If they allow you, they may let you have a quick look around at things as it's being built. You may even run into a few owners who will be more than happy to share their experience with you. Unfortunately the only way to make an informed decision is to do lots and lots and lots of research and leg work. Good luck! I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself.
