Probably a stupid question but I don't quite understand the science of it all - would they let warm air out in winter? I know there's been a discussion on here previously about being able to close off whirly-birds to prevent this. Cheers, Helen Re: Practical Eco Friendly / Sustainable Options 22Nov 08, 2007 12:02 pm Casa2 Cookiemonster Great explanation Casa! Very clear and concise. Thanks Cookiemonster. And I did it without being sarcastic or facetious! Re: Practical Eco Friendly / Sustainable Options 23Nov 08, 2007 2:17 pm I found this website courtesy of this forum. It's much more than a crash course on building an enviro friendly home, amazing some of the detailed explanations I found. Of course I need much more time to give it all a thorough read... it even outlines solar passive strategies that you would use in the different climatic zones!
I'm sure people reading this thread will benefit! http://www.greenhouse.gov.au/yourhome/technical/fs00.htm Re: Practical Eco Friendly / Sustainable Options 24Nov 08, 2007 6:11 pm Thanks Casa, after that explanation I feel a bit stupid with the way I put it. At least now I can act all knowledgeable to our builder.
I love this website, builders really take a girl seriously when she knows what she's talking about. I was advised to put at least 2 on the roof of my future house. Re from roof space or perhaps top storey/bottom storey. There are a few aircon companies in SA now making this as a extra feature of their evap systems - they filter the ceiling air and pump it via the normal ducts into the house in winter, and it is also and evap ac in summer. re top floor re-circ - similar thing - I'm going to install a duct from the ceiling of my upstairs section to exit near a tomble wall downstairs beside the fireplace to utlise my hot upstairs air in winter for a good purpose. But you also need to be aware of what smells you may be transfering downstairs as well So make sure the air intake is not beside the "you know what" Steve Re: Practical Eco Friendly / Sustainable Options 27Nov 11, 2007 3:15 pm Thanks Chris. I've emailed the company for more information on the eco ventilation. I just gave our plumber some info on the e-vent but this eco ventilator looks good.
