Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 03, 2010 1:49 pm I am about to drop a three bedroom house onto a block of land in Ascot Park and am looking at Weeks Macklin. Unlike AV Jennings they do not offer a fixed price guarantee. Has anybody had any experience with Weeks Macklin? Are they value for money or have people experienced problems? Re: Is Weeks Macklin value for money as a builder? 2Aug 03, 2010 4:03 pm If you want the inclusions they offer, yes. If you want to upgrade heaps, no. As a general rule I find that you should select a builder that offers what you want as standard because it's the upgrades that impact on the bottom line. If you want all the bells & whistles, don't go with a builder that advertises houses for $98K because you'll end up paying double that (and prehaps more!) by the time you've finished selections. But if you just want a basic first house or it's for an investment etc.. then that's fine. Re: Is Weeks Macklin value for money as a builder? 4Aug 04, 2010 10:28 am I had signed with WCH an arm of weeks. All i can say is that i had a massive footings variation with them, so i cancelled my contract! Re: Is Weeks Macklin value for money as a builder? 6Aug 04, 2010 1:11 pm The whole weeks group is known for large footing variations I think. Our consultant used to work for them and he calculated that we would have been charged an extra $40K with them compared to who we've gone with. My mum built with Weeks Peacock and was slugged an extra $25K for footings. From what I've heard and seen $20-$30K seems to be an average amount with a lot of volume builders to be charged for footings. Re: Is Weeks Macklin value for money as a builder? 8Aug 05, 2010 1:28 pm I'm building with Adelaide Designer Homes, which is the same as Ingle Farm ( I think). We have only just had our slab laid so still a long way to go, but so far minimal problems, nothing out of the ordinary for new home builders anyway. Re: Is Weeks Macklin value for money as a builder? 9Aug 05, 2010 1:53 pm My friend built through them.... massive variations on footings! I think theres was 20k above they had been quoted Re: Is Weeks Macklin value for money as a builder? 10Nov 19, 2011 10:48 am No room for improvements These houses come off a conveyor belt in an Elizabeth factory and are rushed really quickly while employees are laid off, leave or underpaid. There’s no moral or attention to details anymore!
