Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 02, 2010 1:27 pm Hi all We have been advised by our independent building inspector that the builders have installed the wrong type of bean has been installed...But he is saying the main issue is that the beam is installed above single brick walls..a.s per our structural plan the beam is to be installed in a 45 degree angle and supported by two double brick walls...but the way it is now, it has been installed diagonally across the house with one wall being single brick internal wall... Site supervisor has said today he thinks the building is structurally sound but our inspector disagrees... Have any of you had any similar issues?? Any advice?? I've been really worried and stressed out...hope it all works out... I would be contacting them directly and discussing the problem. They are the ones signing off on the house. Re: Wrong Roof beam installed? 5Aug 02, 2010 2:05 pm sara.alag ... Site supervisor has said today he thinks the building is structurally sound ... I expect he thinks it won't fall down too... His problem IMO, needs a structural engineer to prove that what he thinks is right... I'll stay away from this one Re: Wrong Roof beam installed? 7Aug 02, 2010 4:56 pm Hi Sara, We had an issue with an I beam not installed as per the Engineer's Plans. We got our Site Supervisor to sign off on a letter (on the company's letterhead) that stated the following... the Builder acknowledges, accepts and approves the "as constructed" configuration. We took photos of how it was constructed and included copies of the photos on the letter as well as a copy of the plans. That way if anything ever goes wrong it shows that it was their decision to build and they accept it as is. Another option for you may be to get a Structural Engineer to review it and provide a report. Send a copy by registered mail to the Builder so that if anything goes wrong down the track you can prove that they were aware of the problem and ignored it. Hope this helps a little...
