I'm not very good at this ). Oh, and the other thing is the way he writes - so that everyone can understand him! Anyway, yes, my question was about application of a clear, penetrating sealer (maybe the Gold?). I'm planning to seal 2 average bathrooms of wall tiles grout. Not sure if I should seal the floor grout too, since it's the "natural" colour, more like light cement-like colour?? Is AquaMix Sealer's Choice Profesional Gold good enough for both of those? Do I really need to take good care to wipe it off the tiles as I go? Is it easy to use and hard to stuff up ? My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... 'Gold' can be used to seal the grout on your walls and floors. Just be sure to follow instructions carefully. But if you think you may want to colour-seal at some stage, best not to clear seal at all. I apply the sealer along the grout joints with a sponge. You will get excess sealer running down walls and on the tiles. Use absorbant cloths to mop up this and buff off before it dries (within about 5 minutes ideally). It won't hurt having excvess on the tiles, but it may show, depending on the type of tiles you have. Ash. Re: cost to seal grout? rough cost for whole house 84Aug 10, 2010 8:04 pm Thanks Ash ... whoa, sounds like not so easy not to stuff it up ... Once I get to this, I'm sure I'll have more Qs about that precision and wiping off the excess. I just can't imagine applying it with a sponge - is it the miniature make-up style of sponge (spongy tip on a little handle)?? I don't think we'll ever use a colour sealer later. Our current wall grout is white. Floor grout - I'm pretty sure it's just a slightly "bleached" cement, it has a slightly sandy texture Is there maybe a different product that is more suitable or better or less demanding to use? (P. S. Onc, simple is good for many, many, many of us; me first ) My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: cost to seal grout? rough cost for whole house 85Aug 10, 2010 8:19 pm Clear penetrating sealers like 'Gold' are pretty quick and easy to do. Just follow instructions. It only get 'hard' if you don't follow instructions and have dried sealer to remove from tiles. Colour sealing takes a lot more work, and is best left to professionals IMO. Re: cost to seal grout? rough cost for whole house 86Aug 12, 2010 4:40 pm Just an update - had all my grout done by Tony and his SIL Adam today. I was REALLY impressed with everything - they were on time, polite and most importantly did a fantastic job. The difference in my mouldy old white shower grout is amazing - they all look new again I am SO pleased. I would be happy to recommend Tony at Groutworx to anyone My karma ran over your dogma Re: cost to seal grout? rough cost for whole house 88Aug 12, 2010 5:37 pm Sure I am a bit embarrased to put up a pic of our ensuite shower before - it was filthy with mould - If you remember we did pay our tiler $800 cash to seal all tiles after he had laid them - Tony seems to think he didn't even do the job as he sprayed an acid type thing that tests for sealants and it showed one hadn't been used He also seems to think considering we had only been in the house for 1 year we had alot of mould, he thinks the tiler must have used the silicon when the tiles or grout was still wet hence trapping in the mould which is why we had so much. Anyway pics - not the best quality sorry. Before ensuite shower After Laundry before:( Laundry tiles after Toilet before Toilet after The toilet photos don't show the colours very clear - the floor tiles are all the same and are actually the colour in the laundry/shower pics. So overall very happy My karma ran over your dogma Re: cost to seal grout? rough cost for whole house 90Aug 16, 2010 7:49 pm It would be good to know how it is when you clean whether it really makes a difference or even whether it really protects the grout. Thanks for sharing the pics and information with us haywgl. Re: cost to seal grout? rough cost for whole house 92Aug 16, 2010 8:40 pm No worries The grout sealing has been fantastic - easy to clean up and just looks new again! The shower is remarkable - you can see the water all beading around the corners of the shower where all the previous mould was so i know it is doing its job!! My karma ran over your dogma Re: cost to seal grout? rough cost for whole house 93Oct 13, 2015 12:35 pm Hi everyone! I realise this is quite an old thread but I was hoping to get some feedback on your grout sealing? Our tiles are being grouted as we speak in living, dining, kitchen and bathrooms and I really want to seal them. We can't afford to have it done professionally so I'll have to do it. Our tiler has recommended sure seal impregnator in the aerosol can and I've read on here about the aqua seal one. For those who DIY, which did you use? How easy was it? Any issues? How did the product last?? Thanks heaps! I need to replace the worn mohair seal on my sliding window, but I can't get access to the end to slide the old one out & push the new one in. I could probably rip the old… 0 5184 4 14277 Thanks splashers, that makes sense. The waterproofing guy used this Davco product, I will raise the issue with builder and hopefully get resolved with him - if not… 2 12890 |
