Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 30, 2010 9:32 am I don't want to call my site supervisor and disturb him with this, but does anyone know what date the Christmas shutdown starts this year? We have had bad luck so far with retaining walls / hitting a lot of rock / rain and I am starting to get worried that it won't be finished by Christmas . Any ideas? Nic. Varies by builder, doubt they know until about 4 weeks prior. Ed "ECOECO" At 'EcoEco', we design windows, we design the best windows, we do it for you, so that when you’re happy we are happy. Re: Does anyone know when the Xmas shutdown starts this year 4Jul 30, 2010 9:52 am THe last day on the Builder's calendar is 17th December, but as other have said, many builders work through the break, or change the break up date to later. Blog is now up - http://www.jbdave.blogspot.com/ Re: Does anyone know when the Xmas shutdown starts this year 7Jul 30, 2010 10:36 am Like most have said, it depends on your builder. But it also depends on what stage you are up to. Some people have no action on their house because they are waiting on an item where the supplier shuts down for 4 weeks over Christmas so their house comes to a standstill. If you are underway now, you'll most likely be in the final run by Christmas where it really is tradies coming to finish up rather than waiting on things such as cabinets, windows etc that would be affected by a shutdown. You'll find they'll try to get you finished before Christmas if you are close to being finished and a lot of the tradies only take from Christmas to New Year off, not 4 weeks, so I wouldn't imagine it would be too big of an issue for most builds. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Does anyone know when the Xmas shutdown starts this year 8Jul 30, 2010 7:52 pm Thanks for the replies... for some reason I thought there was a standard date that most builders packed it in for Christmas. I will check with our site supervisor next time we talk to him and see if he has any ideas yet. This house had better be worth it - we bought the block in June last year and it's only just started... we were meant to get a slab yesterday but as it rained for something like 28 days this month, they hit huge amounts of rock and we had to get a retaining wall, virtually nothing has happened yet. Unfortunatley, patience is not one of my strong points so this is REALLY starting to get to me! Thanks again! Nic.
