Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 27, 2010 7:06 pm let me just start by saying that "a bloke in a pub told me this". So i am asking if others have any fact regarding this. He is a reputable smaller builder in my local area and he was suggesting that a new imported plaster board is coming into Australia from "overseas" and is half the price of regular local plasterboard. Allegedly, due to the makeup of the plaster, it can be corrosive to pipes, cables or any metal it touches. Any plasterers out there with knowledge of this allegation? Is it something large volume builders would be attracted to as it is large saving. I guess i would be concerned that if it is corrosive, it would be after the builders warranty period had expired that problems would surface. Eveyones been paid, everyones not responsible anymore, we built a cheaper house and made more money, not our problem. Bring back quality, i know i'm happy to pay for it. Re: Imported Plaster.....Concerns..?? 2Jul 28, 2010 9:52 am Hi there Well to say not too much about imported products would be detrimental to the Australian building industry as a whole. We do however use many imported products but you should be aware that if they are not in the main stream of available products then possibly they have unknowns attached to their quality. I would say however that Support the Local Guy there are many Plaster manufacturers throughout Australia and these guys produce a great and respected product that has endured through the last 50 or so years in the Australian Building industry. As you say Buy local maybe a few dollars more than the import but you are being a True Blue Aussie, supporting locally produced goods. And I am with you Bring back Quality and Local made products to our country ..this creates beter internal Economy. Thanks for all replies.
