Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Home phone line connection 21Jul 24, 2010 9:26 pm Our builder included the trenching in the contract (or maybe didn't but made it seem that way !)....only thing is, it was done by the sparky who put the pullrope to the wrong pit (there's one on the nature strip outside our place), which he wasn't to know, when in fact it should've gone over the road. Found that out when the first Telstra guy came out, and we had to leave it be. That caused delays in getting the final run of the cable connected, but the sparky fixed his side of it, and had a Telstra contractor (Ring A Ding Telecommunications) come out to complete the final leg of it to connect to the house. Tested with a basic phone, all good. It was no extra charge on top of the $299 for the second visit - and i've even got the net connected - just no house to use it in Re: Home phone line connection 22Jul 24, 2010 9:57 pm kikin Aaron & Erin We were only charged a $59 connection fee as we'd dug our own trench, laid the conduit, and already had the little telstra box thingo that goes on the outside wall. Oh really? I found a telstra box outside my house too (near the wall attached the meter box), does that mean I just need to pay $59 too? Oh so complicated~~~ Us too. I assume that all we need to do when we move in, is to ring to have it connected Dear J.K. Rowling, Your books are entirely unrealistic. I mean, a ginger kid with two friends? We pay $90 per month now, for 25GB ADSL 2+ without the phone, so not too bad. It pays to look around, as i'm sure you can get a better deal Dear J.K. Rowling, Your books are entirely unrealistic. Thanks Erin. Sounds simple enough, so hopefully that's all there is to it. I'll soon know in a few weeks Dear J.K. Rowling, Your books are entirely unrealistic. I mean, a ginger kid with two friends? Oh really? I found a telstra box outside my house too (near the wall attached the meter box), does that mean I just need to pay $59 too? Oh so complicated~~~ We had this too, but the telstra guy still said it was $299 for newly built houses as it's how they recoup some of their costs for the exchange and cable in the streets. BUT because we were quoted $59 that's all we paid. Re: Home phone line connection 31Jul 28, 2010 10:24 am Oh and I also got billed $100 for switching providers - something they never mentioned when I got the line connected... My line was connected with telstra for 7 days. Not sure whether to fight it, as they never told me about it, or just be thankful that the total cost was $159 rather than $399 lol ;o Re: Home phone line connection 32Aug 24, 2010 3:49 pm I phoned Telstra to have my number moved to my new house. I was told by the first guy I spoke to that there would be NO charge at all. I got cut off and had to call back (damned country mobile signal), the next guy wanted to charge me for a full new connection but saw the notes from the first guy and hounoured the commitment. Apparently they are sending a tech out -still free Hope that info helps(I used the 1800 331 286 number). Re: Home phone line connection 33Aug 24, 2010 6:21 pm I think that you can only move your (same) number to new place (if that's what you meant) if the 2 places are within the same exchange. And it should not cost you anything My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: Home phone line connection 34Aug 24, 2010 9:49 pm got a strange question here and i dont know where to start we are planning a knock down rebuild, our tennant currently have adsl connected to the property. after we construct the house will we have to pay for the 300 to get the line from the pit to our home? we are planning to have naked dsl and dont require a normal voice line is that an addition cost with telstra or would we be able to just sign up with the isp and go from there? -FF 2nd-Fix | Blog Building with Desyn Homes previously with the insolvent Endeavour Homes Re: Home phone line connection 35Aug 25, 2010 2:09 am From what I understand, I can't get naked ADSL in my area (Mernda) where we're moving to, so our internet will have to have a phone line. Do I have to connect to Telstra for the phone line first? I was thinking of looking at companies like TPG, iinet, Internode for my internet, but Telstra have (finally) reduced their prices so they're a bit closer to what other companies offer. Wondering whether it's easier just to connect to Bigpond initially But then I don't want to be locked in with them for 24 months either... viewtopic.php?f=31&t=37229 - our Iris 4! Re: Home phone line connection 36Aug 25, 2010 3:04 pm I`ve looked into this situation myself but have yet to do it as my plans have just arrived at council. For a brand new phone line/internet connection here is what you do. Ring TPG for example or whoever your chosen net provider is going to be. Tell them you want VIOP/net package and it`s a new house without a connection. You pay the standard TPG plan setup fee eg $250. They then ring up and send out telstra to connect your house to the normal phone line, when it`s all done your provider will let you know, then you setup your modem and phone etc and hey presto you saved your self $299. It`s that easy. TPG pay telstra and not you Re: Home phone line connection 37Aug 26, 2010 12:55 am Phillshz I`ve looked into this situation myself but have yet to do it as my plans have just arrived at council. No matter what you're told, always assume when you are building a new home that you will have to pay the $299. Most companies should contact you to advise that you have to pay the $299 connection fee before they connect your service. I'm building in 6 months and work for a Telco, there's no way around a new line connection for new property. Re: Home phone line connection 39Sep 02, 2010 12:21 pm Anyone know some 'Telstra approved' contractor for Melb west? I have called Vision stream who will get their contractor to call me back. However I want to get a 2nd quote just to ensure I don't get rip off. I also want to run a slightly bigger duct to be prepare for the NBN (if it ever comes). I would dig it myself if I have the strength and was a bit more confident on where it goes.
